What's the difference? I see the multi bridles do 3 different things but the competition bridles are just bridles.

I don't want the bridle to do all 3 things but they are cheaper. Once put together, do they look like the competition bridle?

Does it make any difference which bridle you buy & why is the competition bridle more expensive? Does the multi bridle turn into the competition bridle?

The multi can be used bit-less and has the ring on the nose band so you can lunge from it. The Competition bridle has smaller d-rings so you can't attach the reins to the noseband and doesn't come with the bit-less attachments. Neither does it have the ring on the noseband. You used to not be allowed to compete in the multi because of the noseband, but I am fairly sure that has now been changed (BD at least). Only other difference is comp comes with reins and multi doesn't. Oh and metal work is brass coloured on the multi and silver on the comp.

Thanks ever so much - so which one would buy? I've read they are BD legal if you remove the rings but can you do that on a multi one? Not sure brass would suit my grey.

Having seen both, unless you need the bitless and cavesson facilities then get the competition bridle as the leather is better quality.

I think the competition one (which I have) looks nicer personally which is why I got that one rather than the multi as I didn't think I'd be using the bitless and don't mind lunging off the bridle. Where I got mine from they were the same price (without reins). I'm pretty sure you can use multi in competition as long as you don't use bit clips.

I have the multi as I wanted to play around with the bit-less options, I do occasionally use it bit-less these days but more often than not I keep the bit in as the lad works better that way The competition bridle is a neater looking thing due to the smaller rings (do a google image search and have a compare). I think there are batch issues with the leatherwork so I would suggest going to a tack shop and having a feel of the bridles if at all possible. Copied from the 2014 BD rule book: The Micklem multibridle is permitted as a snaffle bridle but must be used without bit clips. I think they are great bridles and my horse is definitely happier in a micklem, even compared to a normal snaffle.

I have 2 multibridles.

For one horse, the lunge ring on the nose is really useful, and I have occasionally used it bitless.

The horse doesn't need the lunge ring, and as she rubs her head when she is sweaty, the nose ring caused some very sore arms, so I removed it!

I agree the competition bridle looks neater and smarter, especially on a fine head, but the multibridle comes up cheaper 2nd hand:)
