multifunctional 4 x 4 recommendation?

Needs to be relatively good on fuel to use for work - but also able to pull an Ivor Wiliams. Any thoughts?:)
oops fogot, must be second hand and under 12k
 
I tow an Ifor Williams with a Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9 Diesel. I'd only ever put 1 horse in though. Its really economical to run for regular trips and I've had no problems towing.

I would have suggested the Vitara as I loved mine as fantastic in the snow etc. Shame they don't make them better for towing really.

Dumb blonde question coming up, could I tow it with an Audi A4 1.9 Diesel?
 
I have no idea about what the car could tow but it's to do with kerb weights or something like that! There are a load of people on here with more knowledge on the subject than me though! lol
 
Max towing weight of audi a4 is 1500 so you could tow a single ifor (767kg unladen) or a double ifor (920 unladen) with one horse that didn't take you over 1500 kgs.

my kia sorento is faultless. i love it. and you can barely feel that you're towing, even with big horses. love love love it. high towing capacity and all the luxuries you need in a modern car. i went for the XT model as i wanted to look a bit more *blush* rude-boy and have 18" alloys etc. fantastic cars. x
 
The sorento gets my thumbs up but i would also recommend the Nissan Qashqai, really really good on fuel consumtion and brill for towing coming with all the modcon's.
Ive had two over the last 4yrs, not due to any faults far from it, just wanted a more up to date version.

The Quashqai has a very low towing capability for the size of it.

Towing weight depends on the model you go for with the Qashqai.
 
Hi i would not really say the cars mentioned are proper 4x4 to be honest, depends what you want i suppose.

Iv got a Ford Ranger, this has 2 seprate gear boxes, comes with low and high box in 4 x4 , and is really good on the fuel, mine is 2.5 D and can tow 3 ton.

Mine has leather, air con, 6 cd, i pod , air con, and has loads of room to put my stuff in the back...love it
 
Did some similar research recently.

The top of the pile were the VW Tiguan (Escape model only, the others don't tow enough) & Kia Sorrento. Test drove both, and they were both a nice drive and not too bad on the mpg either.
 
Another vote for the Kia.

Mine was fab in all the ice and snow, and despite living up a very steep Shropshire hill, got us in and out safely every time.

Tows fab and has lots of luxuries as standard - mine came new with a sun roof, cruise control, heated seats, mp3 player etc included, the only thing I had to pay extra for was the tow bar and dog grill.

Also quite economical on diesel for size.
