My young horse has developed 4 splints in 10 weeks. 2 on each front leg, medially and laterally.
He has not been worked hard (had most of the winter off due to rider illness and was midway through a slow build fitness plan when they started) or on unsuitable ground. Cause is thought to be concussive trauma created from him landing on his knees as another pony (now removed) was bullying him.
Does anyone have any experience with multiple splints ?
He was around 3/10 lame for a couple of days when the 2nd splint formed but has not been lame with any of the others - they have literally come up over night too. No prior soreness and very little heat in them which dissipates within 24hrs of the splint showing. He has been rested, treated with DMSO initially, is having Silicea in his feed and is now back in slow gentle work. Thanks to a generous friend I am also using a BioMag machine on them as often as possible (every 2nd day or so).
