Mums & mums to be...horses & pregnancy?

1lucie - I advertised for a sharer last year to prepare for winter but had little interest and the people that did enquire were either novice teenagers or just didn't bother to turn up. So you're doing the right thing by making your plans now :)
Good luck x

Another one here who was thinking about trying, and bam!

I'm 13 weeks now, and doing everything as normal, except no cross country or jumping above 1.10m now.

Ill keep going until I can't or don't want to, then my mare can just be a friend for a few months. I might see about a sharer, but I'm planning on being back in the saddle by end of November for Aintree BS championships so will be hoping to "bounce back"!!

Thanks everyone that's replied. Your input has been very helpful & has helped me to feel more relaxed about turning my boy away for a while if I need to.

Keep your replies coming tho, the more opinions the better I say :)

While I'm here I just want to say....
Congratulations to everyone who is pregnant and best of luck to everyone that's trying or planning on trying x

I wish my horse was in full work and then I'd be carrying on as normal also but as he's had time off I'm a bit worried about riding him especially as we're at a new yard (only been there a week).
I may lead him out off of my friends horse who I had on loan for 7 years.

I had the extreme tiredness as well! Never felt anything like it before but from the second trimester onwards I was a wreck. I literally slept 18 hours a day and there was no way I could control it (I would fall asleep anywhere!).

I'm 11 weeks. I have the facilities to turn mine away as he is at home but hoping not to as he would turn into a hippo if he did nothing. He is also 21 and I'm worried that if he stops it will be for good this time, so I am going to rota my friends in to ride him, even if it's just once a week as that is all he gets in winter. He is a steady Eddie so I happy to carry on for as long as I can but I am stumbling with my hip at the moment, oh no...

Weird I have never felt tired! If anything I have felt the best I've ever felt pregnant. I sleep like a log at night now its lovely as I'm normally a light and anxious sleeper. I'm making the most of it before the baby comes!
I wonder if it's the increased appetite that's picked me up. I normally feel so feeble like a wrung out dishcloth and now I feel strong and blooming :).

I'm 14 weeks (and that awful tiredness seems to have just about gone!). My problem is that my boy has recently returned from rockley rehab so the next 3 months of work are crucial for him. We started trying when he went so the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy were horse free. Luckily I've now found a great yard 30 seconds down the road where he's out 24/7 but rugged and fed part livery style. I've been riding 5 times a week and hope to carry on as long as I can. In the meantime I've got a friend who is going to get back into riding so she should be ready to take part of his exercise over when I need to stop. I reckon I'll need another rider for him as well though. And I'm worried about him living out from november onwards but hey I'll be off work so will cross that bridge then. Best of luck to you - if you're keeping your boy long term then don't worry about the break. There are many pitfalls along the way with young and mature horses that result in time off - hopefully this will be his longest break but its nothing to worry about.

Hi there everyone is different to what they feel comfortable with .
With my first son I was riding on the day my waters broke at 33 weeks pregnant and with my 2nd son I rode until the end aswell but nit as often as had a 2 year old to look after !
My doctor advised me it was fine as been riding pretty much all my life and as long as I felt safe which I did , I've had my 14.2hh Arab x for 15 years now so trusted him completely to look after me and bump , which he did the only thing I stopped was jumping.

You will know what feels right for you
