Mums - teach your kids about 'borrowing'stuff!

I'm a reasonable person - I don't really mind people borrowing my stuff - brushes, fly spray etc. - AS LONG AS THEY PUT IT BACK! Our tack rooms are normally unlocked during the day and everyone knows who's got what and where it is. It's the kids that are annoying me - it's 'Can I borrow your sponge/bot knife/Mane & Tail?' I say 'Yes, but put it back'. 'Oh we will.' Do they ever? Annoying enough in itself, but most of these kids have or have had their own stuff, and because they put nothing away it gets trodden on, taken by dogs, etc.
So, 2 pleas really. Look after your own stuff and, if you have to borrow, respect it as someone else's.
Clearly I'm in miserable old fart mode tonight, but it is very annoying to think you've got something and it's not there. I have lost count of the hoofpicks, pairs of scissors and bottles of Mane & Tail I've replaced.

as well! we have to have everything padlocked on our yard or stuff just goes missing

I agree- particulary as someone on the yard seems to have "permanently" borrowed my bridle that wont fit any other horse on it yard! then left the reins and bit because they obviously didnt want those!

I really don't want to start locking up grooming box etc. As I say, I don't mind the borrowing as such, and it's only small stuff, not like your bridle. It's just a different attitude - no respect for other people's stuff, perhaps no realisation that it actually costs, nor that it's very annoying when it disappears.

I used to lend all my stuff. I now lock it all up because nobody looked after it (and of course never put it back!).

Totally agree. However the few Kids that are on my yard are actually very polite and will always ask before borrowing and return. Some of the younger adults, however, are not quite the same

At my last yard i had to have everything under lock and key! Even the feed!! It is annoying when we work hard to get these things for our horses, only to find them taken by someone who should know better and probably better off (well in my case anyway).

I had a new hat go missing, cost me £60 and that was in the sale. I worked hard to afford it as i always wanted one. Then stupid things like headcollars and lunge rein went missing. In total it came to over £200. Oh yeah a brand new rug in bag was used on a new horse as they didnt think i would mind!!!
