Has anyone used a Munch Station?

http://www.robinsons-uk.com/products/Productdetail.asp?ProductCode=42640

I was thinking of getting one for my little lady but i am undecided.

At the moment she has her hay in a small holed haynet to slow her down, if her hay goes on the floor she just inhales it so quickly then she is left with nothing for some hours.

I guess this would be the next best thing to use for an inbetween putting hay on the floor and using a haynet, either way she needs to be slowed down.

I looked at these but they are way to expensive!!!

So what are your thoughts on the Munch Station?

umm i'm in the same predicament...BBEars is taking all her lovely hay and mixing it up in her bed. The slow hay feeder looks like it would do the trick until I saw the price....WOW I've never seen anything so disproportionally expensive.

I'm sure you could get a blacksmith to knock something similar up for ALOT less.

The munch station looks interesting, it might get not be all that easy for the horse tho? I'm not sold on it.

Why not made a trianglar haybar out of thick plywood (the same size from top to bottom) in a corner and ask a blacksmith to make you a heavy metal grill to go over the top. The wood would cost you £10. The blacksmith shouldn't be too expensive either.

Well, I don't like the idea. The angle the horse will have to tilt it head to to get the hay out makes it as bad, if not worse, that a normal hay rack.

I have a couple of Munch stations and wouldn't be without them, they have saved me a lot of money in terms of wasted hay/haylage. I see what you mean about them 'twisting' their necks but in reality once they have the first mouthfull pulled out the rest seems to follow so they are eating much the same as they would from the floor. The don't have to tug hard at it like they would with a small holed net. If I was building stables from scratch they would definitely be on my 'must have' list. I haven't used a haybar as mine would just pull everything out, they don't have this option with the munch station

They are quick and easy to fill, and the manger in the top stops mine kicking their feed all over the floor!

Yes I used them for one winter and sold them as quick as I could on e-bay. Didn't get on with them at all, once they lose any of the 'threads' of hay that poke out of the front they can't get to it at all, and often in the mornings I would find large quantities of hay still in there that they couldn't get to. Also they come with a cheap plastic type base that tilts forward to allow all the hay to slide to the front, which is fine if it slides to the front & pokes out of the bars, but not so good if it slides to the front & doesn't poke out! The base is also a nightmare to keep clean as you can't get to it without leaning in the top & then it is impossible to reach the floor. In addition the feed bowl on top makes for a very unnatural feeding position for the hard feed. Sorry but a big thumbs down from me
