Being new to this, I'd be grateful for any advice or guidance. A friend has suggested going on the 4th August but what is the ground generally like ? She's not sure whether to enter the 80 or 90 ? Studs needed ? What are the fences like ? Any help gratefully received :-)

Yep - flat, sandy, generally good going. Nice friendly venue and xc is not too technical. Well organised. One of my favs.

I do generally like Mustead and the going (for clay based surrey)is sandy -but given the exceptional weather recently I would certainly not describe it as anything but hard right now.

Watch out for 4th Aug (depending on where you are traveling from) there are massive road closures for the surrey cycle event.

I’ve schooled there before and it is lovely - nothing too tricky, lots of confidence-giving fences, a nice water complex too from what I can remember. Fences are quite wide, don’t think i saw any skinnies - though there are a few bright coloured fences that could cause a problem on a spooky horse.

Flat, short and straightforward at the level.

It might be a sandy base but I have seen it run on not the nicest ground mid summer. We are due rain though so could well be perfect!

Lovely, friendly venue, the going is sandy so generally fine even in summer. The course is fairly flat, and not particularly long but it's a nice, inviting run.

I would not say the ground is always good here, I was grooming for a friend last year when the ground in april was terrible. Rutted and hard and definitely knocked it off my places to try when the weather is dry list.

You need old turf for good ground at this time of year. I think borde hill have an unaff in August, might be worth a look.
