i agree that people buy them because they are so pretty- especially the stallions with their huge necks and long flowing manes. i used to ride a spanish stallion and he was one of the nicest, easist horses i've ever had the pleasure to ride, even during stud season. but then my then instructor got a lunatic one in from spain. he was really nice to ride but uber sensitive.
lady near me runs a PRE stud (i used to stable with her) and she is clueless. she just has a lot of money and keeps going out buying really nice stallions. they never get ridden and are brutes to handle because she doesn't know what she's doing and neither do her staff so a lot of the boys behave like brutes. its so depressing

Oooh I think I may know who you are talking about, sounds a very familiar story!
Just noticed this and it is me you are all discussing, so lets get some facts straight shall we?
I have not bought a spanish horse at all. He is at my yard staying with me for a while.
He is not being ridden by me or anyone else, he is in a field with my other 3, which as said previously are a heavy horse, a plod of 20 years old, a 3 year old section a and a 10 year old shetland/fallabella.
The horse in question is a spanish gelding called Sisko that was brought over to England around November time.
He is around 11 years old and was obviously treated quite badly while in Spain. He is not being rehomed and is living with me for some tlc, good grass and a break....
Oh and yes by my own admission I am not the most confident rider in the world, but I am a bloody confident handler and I am aware that any horse not just spanish horses have the ability to run rings around you.
Happy now?

Actually MC not everything is about you, you either have an overinflated opinion of your importance or are becoming paranoid.

I didn't honestly think you would've been riding.
I imagine you are still picking out splinters from your backside, and no doubt will be for some time yet
ANY horse...be it Spanish, Arabian, TB, Highland,Warmblood or hairy pikey pony off a grass verge can be problematic for an owner who doesnt know what they're doing. They don't have to be 'pwetty wiv a long mane' to play up....good grief, they're not called 'Shitlands' for nothing.
All horses benefit from calm/consistent handling and sensitive riding. You dont have to be a pro rider to be able to do this, but sure as eggs is eggs, any novice will get into trouble with any horse who knows they have an ineffectual owner/handler and thus plays up.

Thank you. I have a shitland and he is actually harder to handle than sis!
What I have been doing with him is bringing him up from field each day, being gentle with him, grooming him, doing his feet, big haynet and leading him around the yard and school. Lots of tlc and he will be fine.
Oh as for splinters in my @ss, no they are fine thanks.

ahem! i wasn't discussing you MC...i distinctly remember saying that i was discussing someone i used to stable with..your apology is accepted.
As you know Sirena, I am such a huge fan of the Iberian horse since working with the breed.
Lovely talented and sensitive individuals, it does worry me terribly when the ambition of ignorance ends up with these horses put into the wrong hands.

Good job Sisco is in kind hands then, I thought you would be pleased Jenny seeing as you were so worried about him being sold on as a sound hack.

Why on earth do you think you are so important that people are talking about you? I have made NO comment about you whatsoever......
I do, however, suspect you ought to think on and be thankful for that......
Please follow board etiquette, mc, and do not use people's own names. It is incredibly rude.

I didnt say you had mentioned me personally, I just thought you would be please to know that he is happy and being looked after as he was one of the french rescues that particularly worried you, that was all.
