Has anybody had a horse that has had tension in its mucles?
My horse started to rear and had everything checked, and it turns out she has tension in her neck (and also sprained a muscle in her quarters in the field which doesn't help!)

She has been on box rest for 2 weeks, and the physio lives over 50 miles away so I cant just call her out as and when I need her. She was originally going to be sent back to the eventing yard where she was when it was better, but the box rest hasnt really done much..
Spoke to the physio today and was advised to start turning her out, and lightly lunge her or maybe hack her out in walk on a loose rein. Also she said holding a freezing bag of peas or likewise would take heat out of the muscles.

Has anybody else had this problem and how did you treat it? Dont know if its worth getting her massaged?

how do you know its a muscle strain? my horse has had something similar and its taken alot of diagnosis etc and they still dont know for sure. my horse has a suspected strained/pulled muscle in his pelvic area and has been off for 5 months now! he's had alot of turnout and alot of physio

I have a very stressy TB who now has a massage once a month for this reason, he's always tense somewhere, he's the sort that tears down the field when he's shouted bucking and generally being daft so most of his problems are self inflicted. :-/

He now has the oesteo twice a year and massage sessions in-between to keep him loose, maybe you could book her for a session and get her to teach you some basic techniques so that you can massage him yourself?

Physio didnt think she needed to see the vet, but she will definitley be seen in about ten days time when they come

I suggest you get a vet out as soon as you can and sack your physio. It is ILLEGAL for anyone other than a vet to diagnose a condition and also ILLEGAL for your 'phsio' to treat your horse without the vets permission.

Yikes!!!!!!!! Who is this 'phsio'....they shouldn't be advising that!! It's not their job, and more to the point should be no where near your horse without the vet's consent! Time for a second opinion. Make sure you check their qualifications!!!!!!!
