I've got my first dressage to music competition in 5 weeks and I can't find anywhere to edit music!
I'm using 3 different songs and I need to fit them all to match the test I've written but there's no software for me to do so.
I tried Audacity but I can't get it to work and I don't understand it.
I just want something simple where I can cut and paste different bits of music without hassle.
Help?!

I have professional video editing software that will do that. I just ignore the video and edit the audio tracks. Maybe there is some free editing software out there you can use the same way? Some have a free trial. Audacity is a bit over the top for what I think you need.

Audacity's pretty simple, what are you stuck with? I used to use it before I acquired a sound engineer boyfriend (highly recommended tactic if you're going to be doing more FSMs) so I might be able to help.

Hi, just found this thread on a search. I also want to find out how to go about editing music together. Is there a straightforward app which lets you do this? Surely there must be! Thanks.

Audacity really is the way to go. It's the go-to even for professionals who don't want to shell out for ProTools, and for a task like the fairly simple cutting/splicing that DTM involves, it's quite simple to use.

The more troublesome aspect is that so much DTM music gets mashed together without the editor apparently having a clue about musical phrasing or the aesthetic issues of assembling somewhat random pieces of different styles together. The software is pretty easy to use, especially if someone can give you a quick tutorial (would be happy to help, if you like!). It's the musical knowledge that takes longer to acquire. To be fair, I don't think most judges even notice...

I used Audacity and I am not very computer literate and have absolutely no musical ability whatsoever ever (I'm the sort of person that claps out of time at a concert and my instructor told me when I ride to music the horse is clearly more musical than me and I should leave the rhythm to him!).

I just spent ages playing around with it until it was pretty much what I wanted, the fade in and out settings are very useful for changing from one piece of music to the other.

I'm sure spookypony would recoil in horror at our mashing together of bits of music but it seems to have worked so far as we qualified first time out (although to be fair it was a small class and it's possible the judge was just agog at a small hairy pony doing a wall of death canter to "tiger feet!"

I also used Audacity. Search on youtube for help with the various tools . Its quite simple, take it from me, i am not that good on computers. Can't even upload a photo to here.!!!

Fabulous, Audacity it is then. I am also computer and musically illiterate but am reassured by your posts that I might be able to manage it. I want to put together a pairs DTM for my daughters on a 13.2 cob and a Shetland. I am having thoughts about a Queen medley. I would love to have the cob coming down the centre line to Fat Bottomed Girls, but as older daughter is also slightly large of bottom I wonder if it could end up scarring her for life........ I also want the Shetland cantering round to Don't Stop Me Now. Just need to rig up the bluetooth speakers near the school now, I hope they're loud enough.
