Left at 6.45 this morning to get to Moreton, as I wasn't competing there this year, I thought I would help out (and am helping on Sunday aswell!)

Just a few things!

1) I love my car - it may sometimes be full of cr@p but I was so grateful for the extra jumper in it this afternoon (cue two hoodies, and a coat and still shivering)

2) NEVER turn down caffeine/food - it is much needed (I survived on a sausage bap ALL day!! (coming from the girl who eats more than my horse)

3) Spare pairs of underpants are needed for when watching "those" misses in the warm up ring...

4) STAND UP FOR YOURSELF and the reasons WHY you are going to numbers on the board and NOT to times - if it worked for the PN then it will work for the Intros - AND we finished early so nur to you, fussy people.

5) Enjoy the small moments of pleasure of watching the pros - WFP, Aaron Millar (who's grandfather is a lovely bloke!), Terry Boon, Ed Eltham, Daniel Sibley, Georgie Spence etc - lovely riders and cracking horses - pleasures to watch, even when GS had a few naughty ones! (so did Jon Souch who's horse decided it was more fun to bronk along the line of the practice jump)

6) It is always a fabulous day when noone falls off

7) some riders are polite (WFP big thumbs up today, charming and even on my tippy toes I still dont reach nose height!)

8) glasses of wine are VERY much needed now - an hours shocking drive home in the rush hour can't even stop me smiling

It was good to see you today Jules. I do admire you doing that for the whole day! The majority of the pros are always so polite and unflustered, its always the spoilt children with bossy mothers who are the problem!
Might see you on sunday

Boss the GORGEOUS little bay one? ohhh myyy that was so cute! really really nice!! Stood and watched that for ages!

Stilton yeah it was fab seeing you again when I wasn't being blonde/rude! Haha I managed not to have many spoilt children and bossy mothers - maybe a few chavs who were screaming and one flustered kiddy but it's all relative!

Sounds like a fun day - just shows politeness goes a long way and WFP is always very polite to everyone imo - shame they aren't all like that isn't it.

Here's a question for you though do you have to be a certain age to help out at events - would they let a 16 year old help?

Well done - I fully intend to do a day this year to see the other side of the coin!

I always prefer number order rather than slavishly sticking to times, even in the face of an empty SJ ring and 10 people ready in the warm-up none of whom are allowed to jump as they're not down to go for another 15 minutes

...

Much easier to arrive, see 10 people warming up and know that they'll all jump before you and therefore you'll be the 11th to go

ah ha - I thought it was you! I was the one looking at you thinking "are you or are you not from HHO...!!!" Sorry!
Well my amusements were over-hearing the SJ collecting ring girl saying "I have to keep pulling my t-shirt down as I'm sure my bum looks big in these jeans!!!"
and
"God, I'd need a change of under-wear if I was riding that!!" - it was to be fair a shocker of a jumper in question!!
You did a stirling job!

oops i thought noone heard that....i had to cover my bottom with my tshirt cos it was so cold! Haha
Which horse were you on?
Gamebird i am back helping on sunday and helping at somerley-good deeds for the year much? Haha

jumptoit I am pretty darn sure any event will welcome any volounteers with open arms!

and gingerspice (fab name) forgot to add my arse always looks big in jeans - it was the comment above that I was saying

SC and I will be at Powderham! I have been a good little volunteer this year as already done Aldon. Hopefully by May I will actually be competing rather than helping.

Just didn't want to feel like a hindrance!

Well done for helping Jules! My friend who was the cross country starter has just rung and he said it was freezing down there. They had to delay the start at one stage because a gust of wind blew a load of paper work out from the secretary's tent onto the course. I'm quite glad I had to work so I couldn't help.

Jules - did you see my horse?! Did he survive the SJing?? No results up, no word from loaner......all I want is for him to have completed safely.

The results are on the BE site now. There was a problem on the cross country with some riders being eliminated and being asked to leave the course. They then appealed, won the appeal and were allowed to run again?!

Haniki really?!

SC which was your horse? I saw each and every one (lol)

Have just noticed on results that one Retired on XC and has a (D) - so sad - does anyone know what happened

teaaaaapot I am there helping on the Tues and competing on the Weds.

jules...thanks for offering to help..cant run without people like you, so grateful

jumptoit - my 10 year old daughter has been helping in the start box and commentry since she was 8 - so yes, if you know your way around horses, there's plenty to do, please ask...

Well done Jules.
Just like to add that AM granddad is awesome
grin.gif

Also one of your pros had a very different response from the sj collecting ring stewards at Aldon

Hehe that horse you said the rider would need a change of underwear for....that was mine! Took off literally 3or4strides out and did it every time, warmed up like crap yet still went clear strange boy - didnt take him xc though! He really wasn't his normal self yesterday which is a shame - reared up twice in the dressage and bronced half a 20metre circle - and you saw him in the sj warm up! Meep lol

How did you get into doing it? who did you contact?

Also, does anyone know anything about the horse that died?

just in case.....the horse that died didnt die here- it was at another event or show somewhere - had us worried for a bit!!

and no, this is Liz's very grumpy husband (when i am stewarding!!!!)

Sadly you need to tell BE to update their results then cos they are showing it at Moreton
