Schooled my girl tonight and she was not very good, not naughty as such but just wanted to follow my friends horse wherever he went and prefered to be a giraffe. We had a few nice moments and I was not totally disappointed with her.

My friend is going to help me start jumping and on Monday I rode her very good, very experienced boy and popped him over a jump or two. We got on quite well and I was very pleased. My friend rode my girl as she hasn't jumped for a long time and two beginners are not a good combination. She was very good and we ended very happy.

After our session tonight, one of the jumps was still up, a tiny little cross pole 1ft 6" if that

I felt brave so said that I wanted to pop Cropi over it just once.

Error No 1 - I didn't circle before the jump and came in too close

Error No 2 - because I was a little too close I didn't have enough time to balance myself (as best I can!)

Error No 3 - I did the fatal, shall I shan't I thing in my head which my girl instantly read and went in like a snake

Error No 4 - She took off, so did I but about 2 seconds after her

Error No 5 - because she was unbalanced she went off to the right as she landed....I didn't

Error No 6 - As I flew over her shoulder I realised I didn't have my body protector on and landed with an almighty thud in the base of my back in the wettest, sandiest part of the school

Took me a second or two to get my breath back and my poor girl took off round the school but came back to me as soon as I called her, bless her she thought she was going to get told off. I hauled my soggy, sandy arse back in the saddle and I jumped it again, still not pretty at all but I stayed on. My friend then put her over it twice more but she still went to the right the first time.

Hindsight (what a wonderful thing that is!) tells me I was very silly and should of just stuck to learning on my friends horse who is an old hat at jumping, is a lot bigger than my girl (ie in front) and never jump again without my body protector!!

I've downed some ibuprofen, nicked some of my girls arnica and i'm going to have a nice radox bath in a little while.

Wine and nibbles if you got this far!!!

Owch. I can sympathise with the giraffe horse, had a lot of that tonight.

Also with the jumping, there will probably be a similar post from me come summer when my ankle is up to it again. Will have been a year since i jumped, and i've always been rubbish anyway

Have a nice long bath and a big hot choc- and wear the BP in future!

Maybe you could jump your friends horse a few more times to get some practice in, but i wouldn't worry about jumping your girl. It was just a combination of little things that had you off today, and you got over it 2nd time so well done

Thanks, I am going to get back on my friends horse and practice on him until I am confident, during this time my friend (who is a great rider) will jump my girl and get her used to doing it again. I don't think that she has jumped properly for about 5 years and I havn't jumped since I was about 10, I'm a LOT older than that now

We will get there, as will you too :O)

The tablets are helping, vodka is just about to join them!!

the weather wasn't a tsunami, although it had been this morning! the splash I made when I landed was !!! The school was quite wet and I chose the wettest, soggiest, sandiest bit to land in!!!

Big lesson learnt!! Very sore back this morning and a cracker of a bruise coming up on my leg, no idea where that came from, didn't even realise I'd hurt my leg!!
