What are everyone's must have products? The things you really can't live without for the yard / horse care etc?
I thought it would be a good idea to share these!
(I assume this isn't for the basic essential for horse care. Hoof pick, basic brushes, muck scoop, haynets etc etc)
A Pumice Stone for grooming. Absolutely amazing for removing loose hair and also work like magic against the mud and grass stains my grey gets all over him XD
Sweat scraper for after those hard work-out sessions. And for when he's gotten especially hot nothing beats cold water and then the squeegee (and his happy face when he gets squeegee'd is adorable )
NAF D-tox for anything that is off colour (and I take it when a cold starts and it kicks it into touch!)
Equilibra, it keeps the horses looking so well without over heating them.
Stainless steel pot scourers, unravelled and plaited into a pad - best thing for removing mud without the horses minding, even on fit TBs bellies.
Hot water on tap.
A shedding blade! And baby wipes for stable stains on my grey mare as well as a grooming mitt and grooming block (used together) for stable stains too. And polos for when she wont be caught haha
After having most of my stuff go missing (most times temporarily), I've found all I really need is a headcollar and some sweets, surprising how much stuff I thought I needed but didn't!
Barring the basics (correct feed, tack, grooming kit, etc) it's the hairspray I use after I plait- I think it's called Cactus Rock Hard, comes ina bright green spray bottle. Honestly- makes the plaits shine and look very black (great for a greasy mane), and keeps them in despite hippo-horse living out and plaiting the night before!!
My sheepskin numnahs, but not the short pile sort you can now buy, I have for over 20 years slung a sheepskin rug on, (wished I had patented it)they wick all the moisture away on hot days and warm a cold back in winter, mould perfectly to the horse.
But you do have to not let the OH see you put them in the washing machine
Thermal builders gloves for mucking out in winter. It's easy to forget how horrible it is to put household rubber gloves on already cold hands brrrrrrrr! (oh and they're really cheap from Aldi and last forever, I bought 4pairs two years ago to last me and am still using the first pair! I think they were about £2.99 a pair)
My rubber grooming mitt for when they decide to come in covered in mud, couldn't live without it now so quick and easy to remove mud also plaiting bands and lyrca hood anything that helps keep them clean basically
I love my rubber grooming mitt, its the business for getting muddy legs clean. But my magic products have to be baby oil and nappy cream. The baby oil to keep mud and bot eggs off her legs and nappy cream for mud fever. Cheap, cheerful and effective. Oh, and baby wipes for my hands, her eyes and nose, for a quick polish if she is super dusty. Plus as I have them in the house already they don't count as a Ned Expense....in my mind anyway!
A good wheelbarrow!!!! but even though its the best thing on the yard and probably the most abused thing on the yard why is it when you need to buy a new one everyone moans about the price of them!
