The past week Mustard has made dramatic improvement. His work in the school has suddenly clicked, he keeps a nice slow rythym and is much better in his mouth. Yesterday I rode Moon and led him around the farm and he was super, followed Moon over some wooden hurdles and it worked very well, despite neither of them having done ride/lead before.
Today he had to go it alone- we did some little jumps in the school then headed out to the xc field. He was absolutely super, just popped everything cool as a cucumber, even put himself into canter and made a really nice shape over the slightly bigger ones.

Moon's being a bit of a cowbag but she promises she's going to be good this week

Aww, the babies are so rewarding when they start getting the idea, aren't they? i think you're mad/brave to ride and lead over hurdles though, i always expect the one i'm leading to stop, and me to exit backwards out of the saddle, so i haven't got the nerve for it any more!

Luckily Moon's pretty dependable and I only really needed one hand- she doesnt get strong either!!
I love babies, when you do all the work yourself theyre SO satisfying

Glad she is progressing so well. What is the plan sell on or do a bit?

If he carries on as he is it will probably be a keep, start eventing and assess potential job- if he's not more than a PN/RC horse then he'll be sold.

Sorry HE! Hope to see you out and about with him and moon then.

Probs wont event him till the summer if he's still here then, will focus on Moon for a bit (and save money!!)

I hear you've been shopping.....

Mmmm got myself a rising 4 year old a bit younger than I really wanted but to pay a sensible price for something that MAY have potential is difficult!

Where does Moon start and what are the aims for Moon this year?

Oooh, you'll have to give us pics and more info, 4 yr old BYEH for you then

Moon will hopefully do 6 novices/INs spread out across March-June and then do a couple of intermediates end of June/ July. If we get that far we may quit while we're ahead! The ultimate aim would be Gatcombe CIC**, or the PAVO 7 year olds but I think both of those would involve putting in more time and money than I can spare.

Great news! He is such a cutie by the way. I saw you riding Moon and leading him yesterday and thought he was being very good.

If you fancy a hack during the week let me know!
