I have a Musto combination jacket that I love to bits. Mine is about 5 years old, never off my back and other than the zip going is still great and fully waterproof. But over the years it's got very dirty and doesn't really come clean anymore when I wash it (it's a lilac colour, got it at the outlet store hence no choice of colour!) so if I go out "in public" I look like a tramp :p

Thinking of replacing it, but the newer style look different. Not sure if it's just cosmetic (eg the stripes on it) or if the fit/features etc have changed. Does the hood still roll away? Does it still have the hang-up loop at the neck (on the outside)? Does the inner jacket attach the same way? Is it the same fabric? Mine has a very tough outer that has only been accidentally ripped once - the photo here makes this one look like a "softer" fabric.

None of my local saddlers sell it, hence can't easily go and try one on to look at it. Can anyone provide a useful comparison for me please?!

Thanks :)

I put this post up ages ago. I've now finally ordered the new Musto Combination. As expected there are a few changes to the features; and just in case anyone is googling this, as I was a few months ago, thought I'd just update.

The fabric is different, it's more like a sort of brushed cotton. I'm not sure it will be so tough, but only time will tell!

The hood no longer rolls away, it zips off (an improvement) but doesn't roll away.

They have moved the mobile phone pocket, it's now underneath the inner gilet, so you need to unzip this to get to it.

The main pockets have also now changed so they are vertical rather than horizontal. Bit stupid if you ask me, as everything is going to fall out of them and when you are cold and wearing gloves, you don't want to be constantly zipping and unzipping pockets.

It's probably got a slightly longer tail than the old style. It's a nice design, but all in all I don't think the changes are for the better. That said, it's smart, lovely and toasty, and I'd imagine still the jacket I'd have chosen :). I suspect I'm just being fussy and resistant to change :p

Pointless post but thought someone else might find it useful :)

I've never been let down by my Musto gear so far, so I'm sure I will come to love these "improvements" even more than my old one :p

The one I ordered was navy (bit more practical than the old lilac one) but it has shocking pink trim. That's ok I thought, until it arrived and I discovered the gilet and lining are the same shocking pink

I don't normally use the gilet on it's own, but my horse is chestnut. "Luckily" she's the one that's off games, and my other one is dark bay. So by the time the chestnut is fixed, I can save up for a non-clashing jacket for her :)
