What is the best muzzle for staying put (aka horse not being able to remove it easily)? This time of year means more grass and pony is already fairly big after a winter of no work.

Shires bucket muzzle is brilliant, I have had to tape up the Velcro strap as she kept getting it off so I just release the trigger clip to put it on and off. It would still break if she really needed it to but is difficult to get off so she gives up after a couple of goes and gets busy munching. I wonder if Olive would still be alive at this point if I didn't have one!

I also have the Shires, but my pony gets it off 3+ times a day. I solved it by putting a headcollar over the top and threading the headpiece of the headcollar through the elastic 'keepers' that hold the padded bit to the headpiece of the muzzle. My mare also gets them off quite easily, but I thread hers through the ear holes of her sweet itch hoody - also a success! I did try the Greenguards, both pony and horse sized. Pony sized was pushed to one side immediately (diabolical design!!) and the horse one stayed put, but made his chin so sore he literally starved himself for 12 hours turnout time. Everyone else on the yard uses them, though, so horses clearly do eat with them - however all the other owners are putting sudocrem on their horses' chins every morning. Not the way I want to use a muzzle!!
