My Yearling is getting very fat, her mother is amazing and although mum is lookng about right baby is definatley getting fat.

Im debating muzzling her on vets advice but im worried about the bond it may break between them? They always groom each other but wont be able to and also will the restricted intake affect her growth?

Have others had to muzzle youngesters?

Her mum is a cob and we think dad was a NF- so very much native blood in her.

I cant fence off anything, i have only 3 small paddocks which rotate, ive tried separating her in the previous place but she gets very upset.

i would rather put her in a electric fence strip, long and narrow if poss to encorage her to walk around, and maybe take her for some walks in-hand. if she is handled enough to do so.

she doesnt look to bad to me, you just dont want her to put on any more, winter is soon round the corner now and hopefully she will loose the little extra then

sorry just read your previous post if you electric fence off a strip in the same field as you others, then she can still see them and groom over the fence.

is she on any hard feed?

Electric fence her a bit off, if she's used to being stabled you could stable her and mum during the day. A lady at our yard muzzles her two year old during the day but takes the muzzles off over night. Your yearling is very pretty as is the dun and white in the next field.

i muzzled myn yearling as the field we had was over lush grass and she started getting pulsey.couldnt electric fence and only option would have been leaving her stuck in most the time.she wasnt over weight at the time and she was in at night with ad lib hay.
she only wore it for 6 weeks until we moved.she was fine.only got pics of her trotting about with it on though...
never a prob to put on-left carrot in bottom and she put her head in each morning!
