Currently Poppy is out during the day restricted grazing, but like everyone her patch is in danger of getting trod up, and P really wants to kick up her heels and gallop about!

Would you muzzle in winter and let her have access to the orchard? about 4 acres with a few lambs but far more grass than is good for her. Post laminitis.

Thank you!

Mine has a muzzle on still, her winter field has loads of grass. It's not great quality but there is a lot of it :o She's not laminitic, just stuffs herself silly:rolleyes:

Guess it depends on what the quality of your grass is  :)

Mine muzzled all year round only way 2 keep in top of his weight!

Altho he is getting it off for the day on tues as its a special day!!

My mare had a lami attack 3 years ago and she gets turned out for 5 hours muzzled through the summer & winter months, I would dare risk not muzzling her. I would make sure that the muzzle cant be caught on any trees.

Yes, I would much rather muzzle and have her in a larger paddock snuffling around on more grass. This is exactly what she is up to right now :). Last year she was in a restricted paddock, unmuzzled and spent an awful lot of time standing around moping. Controlled all day eating has made her the happiest horse (unsuprisingly) - I just hadn't found the right land for her before.

Thank you everyone, she is muzzled during the summer in the same orchard, and tbh wearing the muzzle does not bother her! Much nicer to see her being able to hoon around the orchard if she wants!

Happy christmas!
