Cob mare (has slight arthritis in front legs) going to be living out 24/7 (unless i find a sharer). Will she need a hw or would i get away with mw? Limited funds but obviously my horses welfare will come 1st!

Is she a good doer? Is she going to be clipped at all?

My little mare lived out a few years ago with a chaser clip, she was a good doer and she had a medium weight on and did brilliantly.

If shes a prpper cobby type she will be fine with a middle weight- something about 220-260g. It does depent on what part of the country you are in too though I suppose i.e in Scotland (v. cold) or Devon (mild).

yeah as long as her weight is o.k I recon she would be fine.

You can put one on if you would feel better about her being out in the rain and wind, and maybe take it off during the day but she'd be fine without a hood i'd imagine

Nottinghamshire! Yeh good doer. She was overweight, cut feed down a little bit and she seems to have lost lots of weight, too much so will have to up feed again.

If you buy a MW - you can always add a fleece/blanket underneath in the deepest of winter which is better than her sweating in a HW and with this unpredictable weather who knows if it if going to be hot or cold tomorrow!
