Hi.
I’m new and this is my first post, other than introductions, I hope someone has some advice for me.
I have a herd of minis and I have owned a couple of bigger ponies, up to 14hhs, so I’m not a novice owner.

I have a 13 month old Welsh d x Cleveland Bay who is 14hhs atm. He’s really spindly atm so ‘looks’ smaller. He was looking ribby but I’ve been told this is far better than a fat yearling.
I was told when I bought him at 5 months he would make 15hh…..which was as big as I wanted really?‍♀️
Has anyone any idea if he’s going to go over the 15hhs?
He’s way bum high and growing like a weed. I had him gelded 3 weeks ago. He’s out during the day but chooses to be in at night. He’s currently on conditioning mix, balancer, speedi beet and thirds am and pm. His feeds are around 8lb in weight. He eats 2-3 huge hay nets through the night and grazes on good grass when he’s out.
I measured from his coronet to the knee and it measures 17” ish? I definitely don’t want him getting that big?‍♀️
He’s a laid back foal and has never been bolshy or naughty.
Any advice to find out a ‘guesstimate’ for his adult height?
TIA

Have you tried the elbow to ergot string test? I have found that this is the more accurate string test, having said that I have a horse from lines that have long legs so he string tests taller than he grew by about a hand. He ended up the same height as his parents but he is purebred so that was a better guide. Do you know how tall his dam and sire are?

Id think you would be on line for 16hands give or take. I'd be looking to change his diet though as that is not suitable for a youngster and could be forcing him to grow very quickly which can cause horrendous joint problems with OCD etc

my 15 month old was just under 14 hands when i got her and she ended up exactly 16 hands. her mum was 15.1 and dad was 16 hands and she was a first foal. what height are the parents? and agree i wouldnt feed him too much at this time of year as dont forget there will be plenty of goodness in the grass
