Well there I was on Sunday feeling really excited about taking Ryan to his 3rd show, he had a good week in the sand school and was starting to go well, so although I had high expectations of coming last, I also thought that I may get some nice comments from the judge to show some progress, but I didn't count on my newly purchased old lorry to mess things up!
Has anyone ever conked out on the slip road of a motorway before? I feel like I know the junction of the M20 at Wrotham intimately now! Couldn't believe it the engine just cut out and we coasted along to this really narrow layby and luckily I managed to pull over. My hubby who was following me with our 2yr old daughter, spent an hour driving around local garages to find a warning triangle but the garages only had crates of beer for sale and nothing to stop anyone crashing into me as they went round the corner on the roundabout at 90 miles an hour! So I spent a long time waving my arms around like a loony and had all of the cars looking at me as though I was barking mad before swerving to miss the lorry!
The smell of burning made me feel quite anxious and the recovery people were supposed to send a towing truck straight away to get me home as I didn't want to re-start the lorry in case we went up in flames (apparently it wasn't dangerous just felt like it was and had to fight the strong urge not to unload Ryan sharpish!) but I ended up with this lovely guy who spent 2hours trying to work out what was wrong and offering to re-start the lorry before I lost my temper and demanded a tow. In short poor Ryan was stuck on the lorry for 6 hours, behaved like a complete gem (couldn't believe he was so patient!), we discovered he likes chocolate cornflake cakes from Sainsburys and that seemed to keep him calm! After leaving the yard at 7.45am and breaking down at 8.20am we finally got home just before 2pm. So we scored Nil points on our dressage test and I doubt my horse will ever load again, in fact when I went to catch him yesterday, he just looked at me and said no way, and legged it across the field!
Surely things can only improve from here?????
I am chuckling lots about it now, but probably won't be when I get the bill, think there could be more than 1 thing wrong! Apparently the fuel couldn't get to the engine which is why it stopped working and they are also going to have a look at the clutch
