I have a 5 acre field with plenty of grass in it. I have my warmblood gelding, my rising 3 pony and my rising 2 pony share the field together.

The rising 3 is a gelding and I've had him about 2 months now. They all seemed to get on fine, warmblood gelding is boss. But just recently my pony gelding and little filly (rising 2) have started fighting. I thought it was harmless play fighting to begin with but it's getting worse and does not seem as though they are playing anymore.

They rear up vertical at each other, thrashing their hooves. They also double barrell each other repeatedly. The gelding does seem a little rougher and I'm worried he will hurt my filly.

Like I say they have plenty of grass, they get hay at night in the field and also a feed each.

Are they just battling out who is more dominant between them? What are your thoughts?

it sounds like rough play and fights over dominancy.

Apart from separating them there isnt much you can do.
It she in season?
Is it worse at particular times of the day/ month?

Are they both shod ? you could have back shoes removed until they sort it, or seperate them, maybe she is in season as blucanoo says, don't know much about mares I've always had boys

Sounds like they are finding their place in the herd and they each want to be higher up the chain than the other one. So yes as you say think they are trying to dominate each other.
