Lovely piccies, am not normally a Collie person but have thought about having one a few times for agility, are they really as manic and obsessive as people make out? What are they like to live with? I'm a Terrier/Gundog person

Thanks.

I've only had BC's, so no experience of living with other breeds, I wouldn't be without them!!! They do need something to do and are all different. If you're prepared to put the time in for training, they are lovely dogs.

Oh how lovely, a collie fest of photos!! What a lovely group you have. Lost my girl in August and I miss her every day.

I'm sorry you lost your old girl, I know how you're feeling, I lost my old boy at Easter, he would have been 16 this summer, I got him from the police pound at 6 months old, an owner surrender that would have been pts at the end of the week, he was such a lovely boy.

My girl was 14 :( I am going to get another though. I miss her like mad and I can't do anything about it but I also miss having a BC in my life and I can do something about that. Have registered with BC Rescue and hope that they might have a suitable dog. Have to be a bit careful as I have cats and I walk and board dogs but want to do rescue as there are so many out there and I think I have a collie friendly home.

Your photos really brought a smile to my face. thank you :)

Thanks. Sorry to hear you lost Paddy. Mine are 13 (Bertie, black and white rough coat), 10 (Teagan, black tri smooth coat), 5.75 (Skye, blue and white rough coat) and 18 months (Star, lilac and white rough coat). I love GSD's, I nearly had 1 before I got my 1st BC and Kelpie's, nearly got 1 before I got Skye, but got my blue and white girl that I'd wanted for years instead.

Stunning - love Skye and Star especially, gorgeous :)

I'd love a red/white or blue/white... I know colour isn't everything but if it has the right temperament. ;) We've only ever had black/white or tricolour collies... Still, hopefully got many years left with our unhinged (black/white) BC yet!

Ours is MORE obsessive and manic than everyone says, but he is very much a special case. He is by no means a normal dog, in any way at all

Thanks, I'd wanted a blue/white for a few years before I got Skye, she's got the best temperament, loves all people and other dogs, she's also got just the right drive, good at agility (been in 3 finals, 1 at Crufts this year) and flyball, but chilled out at home. Star has her mothers great temperament, but isn't as mature as her mother was at this age, hopefully she'll grow up next year and will start competing at agility.

What a lovely collection of fit and healthy dogs :D

My collie is in limbo at the moment, wanting to work sheep but having the handicap of a novice handler :o

Hopefully that will be resolved shortly!

Isn't it great to have dogs with a job? Its what they live for :D

They are very lovely - all four of them - but I am especially drawn to Teagan . . . perhaps because of the lovely ginger eyebrows ;).

We have two collie crosses and I wouldn't be without them now . . . as you say, they are very different and do need a job to do, but are such rewarding dogs to share a house/life with.

As to whether they are all neurotic and highly-driven . . . well ours can be a little more anxious than other dogs but a firm, but kind hand and good leadership has really helped Fred (the five-year-old) learn to settle down. Daisy is so relaxed she's practically horizontal (she's 2) - that is until I have a ball in my hand. And if you could see the pair of them now, fast asleep in a heap next to me on the sofa, you'd see the couch potatoes they can be given enough to do, both mentally and physically ;).

P

I've got 2 BC's and wouldn't be without them.Their intelligence and work ethic are second to none. My two aren't the neurotic headcases that people think all BC's are. It's unfortunate that they've been given this tag due to people who have little to no experience of the breed and their high intelligence buying them and not knowing how to bring them up and train them properly.
