I drove from Hertfordshire to North Yorkshire on Monday to do a spot of shopping. I've been looking for a well bred fox red bitch for a while. I had very strict criteria, lines must complement my fully health tested stud dog, must be bred for work rather than colour, I would prefer a result of a carefully thought out breeding program rather than a one off. I put a wanted advert in various FB working dog groups and was contacted by all sorts, mostly unsuitable. However following a long conversation with a Yorkshire gentleman I was hopeful. He's bred the last 5 generations, still has oldies. Bitch was in pup, expected in a couple of weeks. No pressure, no deposit so I put my name down. Fast forward, pup's were 5 weeks on the weekend so I went to see. I was determined if I didn't like anything that I would say no. I met 5 generations of the family, including a year old full sister. I've talked to people with pup's from last years litter that was the same mating.

The pups that were already reserved were going to people who had pup's from him in the past.

Lovely even litter of pups. I've having the middle bitch. Not the crazy or the lazy. This one was nicely curious and responsive to me.

So meet Freya, she's coming home in under 3 weeks, and a pic of Toast, my boy!

That's a nice name, I need something that sounds completeley different as they'll work together and be sent for birds using their name.

I chosen Freya because of it's meaning, the Norse goddess of beauty, kindness, intelligence and fertility, she's the equivalent of Hera, the greek goddess. My previous black lab bitch was called Hera, the kids were studying greek history in school and chose the name. I love Gods names for animals, we had ferrets called Thor and Loki, a cat called Tipu (a little known Indian god).

Hopefully it's a very suitable name for a gundog.

Happy birthday in advance - she is beautiful and I love her name. I had my old JRT for my 47th birthday and she was the best present ever :)
