Back in the springtime I booked a saddle fitting and having sat on it in the shop, asked the saddler to bring along an Ideal Jessica which I thought would fit me and Tinner. Tinner then became very ill with toxic laminitis and spent months on box rest, then restricted turnout, Imprint shoes, X-rays, tests etc etc. I of course cancelled the saddler...

Fast forward and he is back under saddle, well and happy, and I had pretty much pushed the lovely saddle out of my mind.

Today is my birthday :-) and this morning I opened a big box with the very same saddle in it. My wonderful OH had gone to Leonard Coombe saddlery back in July, and enlisted their help. He then spoke to his mum and my mum and they agreed to chip in for the saddle. He organised a clandestine saddle fitting a few weeks ago when the fitter came out, fitted the saddle and organised the right size girth, and checked my current saddle fit too. Saddle then went back to the shop where they held it until yesterday, when they helped him wrap it up in a big box.

I was a tad emotional this morning, and best of all I've had a quick walk and trot on it this evening and it's absolutely fabulous! So a big, big thank you to my marvellous, thoughtful and kind OH, and to our wonderful local saddlery shop who entered into the spirit of the whole thing, and said that they had never had anyone else do such a thing before. I'm a bit overwhelmed TBH.

Not a very inspiring pic of us both, but you get the idea!

Amazing present!! My OH might do something like that but he would end up spilling the beans as can't hold his tongue lol

Ah, the thought that he remembered all the details, got agreement with your family AND did a clandestine saddle fitting...THEN also kept it a secret has quite made me tear up.

The saddle looks fabulous!
