Anyone else's look like this? It's not bad as a rule, but with the rain we've had in the last week it just can't cope - there's nowhere for the water to go

Hacking it is, then

Oh, no!!!!!! That's pretty depressing! It looks like the arena is on the lowest ground, so with the rain we've had it would be really tough for it to cope.

Fingers crossed for no more rain!!!!

You could build a water jump in that to school over.

That's what I was about to say... great for water schooling! We've got a 60x30 school and one corner floods so have been known to put a jump on the angle in the corner to school over!

Good lord... Sympathy

Ours drains OK but it compacts it so much. I've harrowed every night this week but it always bl**dy rains before I get the chance to ride on the thing so I have to keep harrowing!

Yup our bottom arena used to look like that for most of the winter, lucky for me there was a top arena but it meant sharing with the scary full liveries

We did actually on a couple of occasions build jumps in the water for practise

Snorkel.....?

PMSL - yeah, was thinking of offering swimming lessons as riding clients seem a bit unenthusiastic and am having to cancel loads of lessons

You are all right, you can indeed do water jump practice in it as the base is perfectly firm (in fact hard, as kit says) but sadly don't have anything in atm which really needs it, although I was making Tilly do some yesterday just for fun (mine not hers)
grin.gif

oh dear. mine doesn't look like that yet... however, it's just a pretty ornament at the moment as i can't ride anyway, so it might as well be flooded.

wish i could explain to my very bored, very angry, and very frustrated youngster that it's HER BLOODY FAULT that she's stuck in a muddy paddock every day, as if she hadn't broken me, she wouldn't be... i think i need a "horse whisperer"... to bellow it in her ear.
have you tried clearing the end of where the drain soaks away, just in case... hope it clears soon, very annoying.

We were having problems with ours and called in stiller uk.They recommended a complete re-install of the drains and drainage stone at nearly £8k.
Although not as bad as yours it has hardly improved at all and we are not happy as you can imagine. They are now blaming the surface all though they did a porousity test on it before they did the work and said it was fine.

Have got a third party independent consultant coming to look at it tommorow with a view to possible legal action.

Madly enough, despite us having just a field to school in ATM and having 6/7 horse on it daily, 3 of which are plate-footed, plough creatures, it is holding up ridiculously well!

Tell your clients to toughen up, they want to be eventers!!??
grin.gif

Ours is fine apart from a puddle at it's lowest point where it's running away down the drive, the worst problem is it's taking the finer sand with it..
It's very rideable which proves the mix works, we have sea sand/silica sand and rubber chips.

Mine rides soft so the more rain the better it rides!! It drains perfectly so never have anything like that. Sorry...not gloating. Actually would swap as would love a long arena!!

Oh god, poor you. Our arenas are ok but the fields look like that... not good. This weather is just ridiculous. I am going to sign up for an internet course in anti-rain dancing. (and maybe voodoo the weather gods as well whilst I am at it)

This is the only time of the year I can feel smug with my arena, it has a 4ft slope from A to C which is not exactly helpful for flatwoork but at least it drains well as a result!

TD I am sending you a care package of a lilo, arm bands, and nose clip
smile.gif
I think it's a fab opportunity to teach PP to jump froom the field into the arena over a jump in the puddle and back out into the field, extreme express eventing!!!!
smile.gif

Our fields are looking like that so I would be confined to hacking if my horse wasn't lame
frown.gif
Hope it drains soon so your precious clients will come back to you.

At least you have an arena!! *Sighs*

What she said!! I have nothing but a field, which is a ploughed clay pit even in summer, I can never do anything but hacking unless I hire a school. So no sympathy from here
tongue.gif

Anyway - half of it's dry, just practice small circles
smile.gif

ours has so far held up but its pretty new and sited well at the top of a hill (well sort of)...i;d love a lesson in a school like that as surface still looks good and not too deep- my baby horse isn't that keen on water so would be ace to have to make him work in it!

Well, Weetwood Grange school in Cheshire is great! No problems whatsover. So where's the problem elsewhere?

Built on clay, on slope, but professionals did job (Clive Challinor - just Google, or ask more on forum).

School no longer for hire, cos of ridiculous insurance costs, + people taking pee out of nice owners, who eventually saw backsides.....

But if you want a decent school, cope with all weathers, google Clive Challinor!

PS: Hi Chloe_GHE - 4ft slope!! Eek! I used to have to ride a client's daft gelding on a school with a 1 ft slope, + refused after 2 sessions.

4ft is absolutley ridiculous.
