So trundled off to Ascott yesterday morning to do the BE 100. Arrived nice and early and appreciated what a lovely event it is! Would definitely recommend to anybody not sure about going.

Warmed in for the dressage and she went very nicely. The main problem with us is that we will do 95% of the movement absolutely beautifully except that in each movement she insists of looking round for one second at anything (person buying a burger, horse standing still, horse moving, person paying for burger, person eating burger etc etc) which sadly results in movements going for 7s or 8s to a lovely pile of 6s. But still slightly annoyed to get 42.5, although looking through section marks the dressage judge was not generous so shouldn't be overly annoyed. She could just do such a nicer test! I know part of it is my contact but just do not know what to do, so any advice greatly appreciated.

Onto SJ, it was quite an interesting course with the first four on a right bend than a sharp turn to a full height oxer and a related distance. 4 faults seemed to be the norm for when I was watching so was thrilled to get a clear round!

XC was a lovely course, they had clearly put a lot of effort into the ground and the course was a fair course for BE 100. We set off really nicely and jumped the first 5 fences out of a rhythm which felt great. The next fence was a stone wall (as is the norm for AUW) but sack the jockey I turned too early and found myself cantering towards an intro fence wondering why the flags were the wrong way round! After a hasty change of direction after realising my stupidity we were back on course! Our nemesis fence was the big ditch coffin at number 10 after a run through the woods, it was a log in, one stride to a big, wide ditch with water running through it and then one more stride to a fish! Jumped in and Iska slammed on the brakes to look at the ditch, ballooned it resulting in us being on a rather interesting stride to the fish and luckily she found a fifth leg and scrambled over it clear!! Doubled checked with fence judge that we were clear and then cantered on. Since we find ditches v scary anyway, and this was the first time she had jumped a ditch with water running through it I was absolutely thrilled so lots of pats for the pony! Ran round the rest of the course very nicely (including another fence with ditch towards! :-D) So got another double clear (our 3rd in a row now!)

Due to interesting detour, a conversation with a fence judge and the obligatory -I only trot through water Mum!- we ended up with 3.2 time penalties and were 9 seconds over the time. I know I shouldn't be annoyed as it was quite a twisty course but we could have ended up 9th without them which would have been lovely to get our first placing at PN level (a milestone!). So, more gallop work scheduled in order to get her fitter but also help her learn to gallop more (will chase another horse at the yard perhaps) and also lots more dressage work at home to help with concentration. (All this naturally to be slotted in between revision and exams!) Next stop Milton Keynes!

Roast beef sandwiches to those who got this far!

Well done Rotters, good job seems things are really coming together for you now:)

Where are you off to next, are you doing Smiths Lawn?

No Smiths Lawn as I hear there's a step out of water and it's quite twisty? How did your 2 (slash one) do today? What idd you think of the course as well?

Sounds like an encouraging event! Great work on the double clear.

You're welcome to try chasing me and P (I think you're at Cane End as well..?) but we wouldn't be much competition! ;)

I was fence judging Fence 6, the wall, and I can assure you that quite a few people tried turning too early and nearly jumped the intro wall backwards....although thankfully no-one actually did! Well done at the ditch, it's quite a scary one, and well done on double clear. Good luck at your next event(s):-)

I'd love to chase! Anything to get her to go!

One of them was me! I was on the bay mare who cantered straight -over- the long grass? Was it a good day?

Yes, I remember you! Very well corrected on your detour, and you jumped the wall nicely too! We had a very good day in the sunshine, and no probs at our fence which is always a bonus although we were one of the stopping fences and we had to stop a few people when there were problems further along on course. I really feel for those that get held.....I've been stopped myself and it's hard having to get going again!

Well done, great result. :)

My horse too thought the ditch at 10 was a horse eating monster and launched over it! We didn't manage to get back to jump C, sailed straight past it so 20 penalties for us.

I was definitely the tricky fence on the course.

Did seem a bit mean to have a one stride coffin in a BE100, especially as the ditch is pretty spooky! It certainly caused a fair few problems.

Coffins seem to be our nemesis at the moment, and when chatting with trainer he did think that one stride - ditch - one stride - out was pretty tough for a 100, although when I walked it I did think that as long as I got in on a good stride the out would ride ok - wasn't expecting pony to launch dramatically over the ditch whilst heading left at the same time!! Plan to spend the entire week practicing over every type of coffin he can build for me so we don't have any more problems :p

Our youngster rode that beautifully and we were really pleased as that was the rider frightener for DD. In fact they rode the whole line really nicely, the hanging log to the semi quarry and the log to the drop. Our issue came at the water, our mare has always been great at water until our last event at ALW where she stopped at the house before the water out of the blue it caught her by surprise. She tried the same again this time, DD had her leg on so she jumped it from sideways but then lacked momentum through the water past the fountain so it cost us some time. But as she was only 6 on Fri we are pretty chuffed and we are off schooling to Tweseldown tomorrow eve before Great Tew.:):)

Aw shame about the detour and time penalties but well done.
The course is quite twisty and I dont think ppl appreciate how much the first half of the course takes out of those as its all uphill!
You did well at the coffin, saw so many have problems here.

Where next?

I'm umming and ahhing about the PNP at Tweseldown? Although I do think it may be one or two outings too soon! (And our dressage is rubbish but I can work on that after exams...) Got MK before that though at BE100 again!
