my back's really bad again *tears*

Sorry to hear about your back pain. I also have found core work hugely helpful with my back. I did it with a personal trainer at the gym and then got trained myself. The core muscles are like a corset that supports your spine and protects it from twisting.

But Pilates with advice from a physiotherapist is probably the safest route.

You poor thing :( I don't have much advice to offer but I compete at showjumping maybe once every 2 months and have noticed that my shoulders ache a lot for a couple of days after so hopefully it is similar (although obviously worse) for you and it will ease up with time x

I suffer with my back and have a great chiro which makes it better after one session, she also says use cold relief. I used an cool block wrapped in a tea towel and also I've been using peppermint oil from http://www.horseoil.co.uk/ it appears to be making a difference but not sure why or how. It's working at the moment so I've kept using it. It was £12 odd a bottle and I felt I would use it on the horse and myself but the bottle hasn't left the house yet :D

You lot are so lovely - THANK YOU !!

I've actually sat here and noted down all the suggestions and am going to work through the list - I really think Pilates will be something I have to try as soon as this crisis is over, and I'll definitely be seeing my physio again (she won't treat me atm till I've had the scan).

I am finding that a weight lifting leather support belt is a godsend - it was an emergency thing as my expensive one gave up the ghost (ripped itself off very embarrassingly when we were in the ring at a show jump comp ). And it's fab both for stable stuff and for riding. And I have a fab hubbie who does lots of the heavy stuff, bless him.

Sending lots of vibes to my fellow back achers and thanks again, you are all so kind xxxx
