My Billy Boxer was put to sleep on Monday lunchtime. He would have been 10 next February. We had him when he was 8 weeks old.

We are all so upset, particularly my eldest daughter who is 12.

On Saturday evening he started salivating heavily and jerking his head. We took him to the emergency vet where he had a seizure. They kept him in overnight and we collected him on Sunday morning. He had not had another seizure.

At Sunday lunchtime he had another fit and then through the night 5 more. In between the big fits he was doing the head jerking and also pacing in circles and after a fit would walk into walls and furniture etc. It was awful to see him like this.

The other awful thing was that our other 2 dogs were growling and snarling at him. I guess they couldn't understand and were fearful of his beahviour. We had to keep him separate from them.

So on Monday morning we took him to our vet. She took blood tests to rule out a poison from his liver or kidneys, but this was not what it was. She suspected that it was a brain tumour because of how quickly it started. She said the head jerking was also fitting and so in reality he had been fitting constantly for 18 hours or so.

We took the decision to have him pts. He had had a very good life - if you know Boxers then you will know that to them life is a blast - one big joke. He was always happy and fun. He loved to run on the beach and sloosh face first through the water. He loved to lay in front of a log fire and burn his tummy.

We couldn't put him through the agony of trying meds that ultimately would never cure him.

We collected our daughters from school so that they could say goodbye and have one last cuddle.

After it was done we went home and took the girls out on their ponies (we rode bikes) and went for a lovely hack for about 2 hours - chatting about Billy and the silly things he did etc.

RIP Binky-boo - we love you so much and miss you so much too.

So sorry to hear this - must be a very sad time for your family. RIP Billy

Im so sorry to hear about your lovely boxer... i am on my 2nd boxer now and they are a very special breed!!

Send my love to your family.. Its so heartbreaking isn't it??

so sorry. my boxer developed similar a couple of yrs ago and it was so painful to see her go through it - the fits got more frequent and the time after each one where she was blind and walking into things extended. i didn't get any tests done on her, i knew it would be a brain tumour and we had to say goodbye before she got any worse. it's still raw now - she was my best friend for years. thinking of you.

Oh HUGS to you all..

That bought a tear to my eye reading that.. uou obviously loved him very very much and gave him a fantastic life.

RIP Billy

I am really sorry to hear your sad news. Dogs little lifes are so precious to us all and they leave a big hole when they go. Take care to you and your family.

Big lump in my throat as I'm reading this. So sorry for your loss, it must have been heartbreaking to see him like that. You did the right thing-he had a great life and you made sure he ended on a good note by not suffering long term.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that, I know how devoted you were to Billy and he was a very special dog. You are the very best of dog owners, you did what was the kindest thing for him at the end. So very sad.

I am posting to thank you all for your kind replies and comments.

Even though we still have 2 dogs, there is an empty place at home. Billy is sorely missed. It will take a while to get over this.

Thank you all again
