Naughty Daisy May...
I was walking her down the field, she has been quite good recently about coming back so decided to give her a run off the lead, as soon as i let her off i realised my mistake!!

She legged it full pelt down the field managed somehow to get under the fence went across a garden and dissapeared, i couldnt follow where she had gone so had to double back and go round the long way, she was nowhere to be seen. I was running down the main rd shouting, i saw a lad who said he had seen her go through a hedge on the otherside of the road. I was running round shouting for her asking everyone i came accross when someone shouted to me that she had just come out of someones house!!! I saw her up the road she saw me and knew she was in trouble and came trotting back and laid at my feet!!
I had to go back and say sorry to the old guy whose house she was in, luckily he was fine about it.
God i was so scared i felt sick, i kept thinking of her being hit by a car or lorry, she is a typical terrier and her lead will not be coming off for a while

How awful, I bet you have a cold sweat thinking about it

How about getting a long training lead - they come in 50ft and 60ft lengths. I use one all the time with my terrier, he can have a good run but there's no chance of him disappearing. Even if it's just for a short while it might help your nerves!

(You can get them on ebay).

Excellent, what a good idea at the moment i use one of those retractable leads but feel she never can have a proper run as she reaches the end very quick!
Will go buy one of those

I know how u feel.....I took a little rescue bichon for the new owner to look after it whilst they where on holiday...I literally had it one hour....went to open my van to pick it up and put it in and it jumped backwards and slipped it's collar

....I balme myself, because I always put a slip lead on, as never trust the owners to put collars on tight enough.

The little dog did a runner, I freaked and got on my hands and knees in the middle of the road, and in my silliest voice was practically begging it to come to me, my OH ran to the back of it and my mams partner, ran to block another exit, I screamed of my mam to open her gate, and it ran into her garden

My heart was racing with sheer panick

I have a rescue terrier. i kept him on the lead for the first 3-4 months, and the first time i let him off he ran away, luckily to my house. He did this on and off for about a year or so. Ive now had him three years and he is very good, so just persevere!

As easy as it is for me to say it... And as hard as can seem for someone to pull off... Be calm... Do not get scared and panic.. That does, and will rub off on your dog... I used to find that when my dogs ran away.... Best thing to do? Run as fast as you can.... In the opposite direction... They stop and are like... "wait? What? where is he going?" and then follow... It does the trick... Oh and never chase a dog.. That just gets it going worse lol....
