I woke up this morning to my Border using me as an itching post (just his head - he does this alot and we have always thought it was because he has a bushy little face). I Noticed about an hour ago (I'm a bad mummy i know

) that his face is swollen. It is only the left side of his face, just under his eye. He is quite squinty with that eye now (was a little bit squinty with that one before - we put that down to the hair again!) The swelling actually feels more like a hard lump, he lets me touch it and prod it reasonably hard without a grumble - he is the kind of dog that would probably have your hand off if it hurt! But he is always less grumbly with his mummy.

My first thought has been that he has been a div and hit his face off something, but he is showing no signs of pain.
I'm a very worried mum right now! He is going to see the V word this afternoon (I havent informed him of this yet

Any1 have any ideas as to what it could be?

My RR has been to see 2 vets and I have very little faith in either of them

The first vet said the hair loss, lumps and confusion was all just down to old age and to just leave her to it! We took her to see a different vet who gave us some Pills and shampoo for her skin, but ran no tests for anything more serious. Neither seemed to know much about the breed and were petrified of the dog!

She seems alot more like herself though

Still has a bald belly but she seems happier!

Thought I would let people know what the vet said (if any1 is even reading!) It turns out the lump is the begginings of an abscess on a root of a tooth apparently. He has been given a weeks worth of antibiotics (that he does NOT like to take) and he has to go back to the vet next week.

Hope the anti-b's sort him out. When I have to give pills to my dogs I break them into half or quarters and get some cheese which I mould round each bit of pill like plasticine (cheese is quite pliable when you warm it in your hand). The pills go straight down the hatch that way without touching the sides ... and they want more!

(If your dog is the suspicious kind, give 2 small pieces of cheese with nothing in to start with so they trust you!)

Poor lad, hopefully the anti b's wil sort him out and he won't have to go down the tooth removal route. Agree about the cheese, usually works if any of mine are awkward about pills.

Thank you, I will deffinatly try the cheese idea. Both the dogs are now on pills and i do not have half an hour to spend wrestling them. I'm sure they will both be easily tricked
