Spider can go beautifully on the flat and is not a big fan of jumping so we've been thinking for a while that dressage may be the way to go with him once we've got his topline built up properly.

Yesterday he proved it - we've just moved yards and are getting the hang of hacking out on our own as we have lots of great hacking around us. He's doing great except when he sees other horses and can't join them. So yesterday when seven horses went past and we couldn't make friends with them as they were crossing the track we were going down he proceeded to do the most amazing half pass I have ever seen for the next half mile. I was torn between irration that he was being such a nuisance and being quietly impressed at the quality of his lateral movement :D

So, no more excuses Spider, you clearly are cut out to do dressage :D Now, if we can just do that on demand rather than because you're a pain in the arse, that would be grand...

the place I pm'd you about :D (so thank you!)

Not perfect as turnout isn't what I would like, but the best I can find at the moment. Will have to see how he gets on there, and now I'm in the area it will be easier to keep an eye out for a nice private yard with decent turnout, which I think might be the way to go one day :)

Mine is the same - she gave me the most frustratingly lovely half-pass in a stubble field when there was a stallion nearby, but I can't get one step out of her in the school. If I could get someone to drag a stallion around the outside of the school at convenient moments, she'd be a perfect dressage horse! What a tart. ;)

I'll do you a deal - I'll drag a stallion around the outside of the school for your tests if you will ride a horse off in the other direction for mine ;) We'll be Grand Prix standard before you know it with tactics like that :D

Ohh :) the hacking really is fab isn't it?!

I might even be going there soon to watch my cousin and her lessons, so may see you around!
