I am gutted.
Vets have said he has come thro op fine, is back in box and started on a little trickle feed.
Never dealt with anything like this before and i just feel for my poor boy.
Healing vibes please!!!

Feeling for you, it's all our worst nightmare. It's good news that they are starting to allow him a little feed, have they told you what caused the colic or what they found?
Sending you and your boy lots of healing vibes, really hope he continues to improve. x

Massive hugs to you and your boy.

Stay positive.

My pregnant mare had colic surgery last september. she had two abcess, a perforation, and peritonitis due to swallowing a small piece of wire from a chinese lantern and having to have 3 foot of bowel resected. It is completely hideous at the time and they are so so poorly, but she came through it, just like your boy will. and she now has a perfectly healthy three week old filly foal at foot. (I can't thank my vets enough, to begin with we didn't think we were saving the mare, let alone the foal!)

Since Dina's surgery, I have educated myself a lot on life post colic surgery, the main thing just seems to be making minimal changes to diet and making any changes slowly. Just do everything your vet tells you to do. The recoperation period is long and drawn out and they look perfectly fine stood in their stable on box rest, but go with it and your boy will come out the other side.

and to give you hope.....

(((Hugs))) to you & lots of healing vibes for your boy.

I'm another one whose horse has had colic surgery & I don't think I'll ever forget the heartache, worry & tears BUT two years later he's still with me & that's really all that matters now.

Hugs... My baby had colic and surgery many years ago and it is still the most horrible thing I/we have ever been through.
BUT, a few months later you would never have known that at several points we thought we'd lost him - he's hunted, show jumped (unaff.) and done many long hacks/fun rides with no problems whatsoever. He's almost 20 now and still going strong.
The first few days are the worst if I remember rightly, so many many hugs for those. Keep us posted xx

Vets have rung this morning and said he is doing well. Not out of danger yet as they are now going to decrease his pain killers and increase his hay intake but the are hopeful!!
I am sure i am getting him home, i just can't see loosing him!!
His heart rate is coming down and he is looking brighter. Vets said he was going to get some TLC and a little walk today :-) :-)

Good luck! I really feel for you.

I have nightmares about my boy needing colic surgery, I don't know why it worries me so much as there are very good outcomes.

healing vibes for you!! I know exactly what its like, my horse had the same 2 years ago and he is fine now so im sure your boy will make it too! Just hang on in there xxxxx
