My boy has a Lump on his side. Help!

My eight year old gelding has a lump on his right side. it fits into the hollow of the palm of my hand (when I cup my hand over it) I hadn't noticed it untill it had been pointed out to me. And you can imagine how I felt about that! It doesn't seem to bother him, I check him out twice a day and had not noticed it. It lituraly came up over night. I would have notived it get bigger had it been coming up slowly. he is out in thwe felid all day, but is bought in at night. So before I call a vet ouit and end up paying through the nose. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it could be? It's not fixed and moves with the skin on his flank. But it is solid. My first thought was that it was just a fatty lump. There are no obvious entry or exit wounds, no blood, nothing sticking out of the lump.

Any help appriciated.

Not really sure but could it be a haematoma? Blood blister sort of thing? If it doesnt go down I'd ring the vet to see what they say.
