So, today was the day my muck heap loving pony came home! Nearly 5 hours in the lorry but he still didn't seem bothered and went off to munch his (soaked) hay in his box.

He's sound, not footy and strode out well across our very nasty stony track too! I put him on the lunge for a ping round to stretch his legs as he wouldn't be turned out until this evening, and I was really pleased with the difference in him. We now have a much longer stride and he's tracking up so much better than I've seen him do in a long time.

Our saddler is bringing his new saddle tomorrow and then we'll be heading out for our first home hack. I can't wait! :D:D:D

It's been a long and rocky road but it's so great having him home, although I will miss my trips to Exmoor to see him and Nic. It's like the end of an era!

Still I came back to earth with a bump when trying to buy the supplements required and got very confused about what to get from where and how much of each to give! Good thing Nic's so patient ;)

I'm going to try to upload a pic so bear with me...

So all not quite as hopeless as it seemed a few short months ago :p

Feeling very happy for you with a slice of "Itoldyouso" on the side :D

Yay!!!! He looks fab. I would have to traipse though months of threads to see it but I do see that he stands much better.

The body shots looks exactly like a horse i knew when i was a kid. Lancer - he was my 'first love'.
He was a grey but his shape is spookily the same.

Thank you Goldenstar and Flame, I'm over the moon! :D:D:D:D

Oberon, I'm feeling very generous today so I'll happily allow you your "I told you so" moment! :p ;)

Tallyho, I think so too! It makes me cringe now to look at the older picture of him. They're in my photo album on here if you want to see them again. Can't believe how upright he looks and how that seemed right and normal to me!

Stupid question alert but does anyone else think their horses have shrunk going barefoot? I'm convinced he's slightly shorter and now looking at his hoof pics from ages ago I'm thinking he was on stilts back then! :o Somebody please either tell me I'm being stupid or agree with me to put me out of my misery!

Shorter hooves by an inch or so with BF...so it's possible :)

Thank you for indulging my moment :p

He has shrunk ;) He'll be at least an inch shorter! Barefeet are very short: my guys are no more than a couple of inches deep!

You're very welcome! I think you earned it with all your very patient advice so thank you very much :D

Glad I'm not going mad! I thought my perception was off at first as I've been spending more time with my youngster who used to be smaller than him but is now taller, so it made me wonder if I was only thinking he'd shrunk until I looked at the old pictures! Whoops! I think my 15.1 and a half hand cob may actually only just be 15hands now! Allowing for loss of shoes and an inch or so of foot! :o

He is looking so well and so much better.

I remember your initial posts and how people started saying speak to Nic at Rockley;-))

Nic will be on hand to give you constant advice, she does it with me and V-man has not even been down to her for a re-hab;-)

What a change from a few months ago!

Enjoy your hack today and please keep us updated with Dom's progress he has become a bit of an iconic Dude xx

Yay, super news!! Remember your first posts about him when you were so worried so am massively pleased you took this route, and now have a happy sound chap home!!!

Def think they shrink. I am pleased with the side effect as I think my mare might just measure in as a small hunter now lol!!

He looks fantastic! I need to go an read the original reason, you must be so pleased to have him back though. I have just taken my boys shoes off - hoping all goes smoothly!

Thank you all :) must admit it is a bit strange having a 'famous' horse! I will do my best to provide regular updates that aren't boring because I think it's so important to get the word out there about what is possible for these horses if they go barefoot.

I'm still partway through the rehab process but it makes me shudder now to think that without this forum and all the wonderful advice I would still be floundering around in the dark with a broken pony.

So glad that isn't the case though! :):):)
