Yesterday I witnessed something that came as a huge shock to me, not that I'm shocked to see these things happen by all means, just the fact that it was my boy.
I have known Ralph since he was a yearling and owned him since he was four he is now 10, he has always hung around with boys of all shapes and sizes and until 2 years ago was inseparable from my Welsh D Fly who passed away. Its taken Ralph all this time to find new pals and formed a few bonds. He has never been interested in mares and has always been in a mixed herd.
Yesterday an older established mare in her 20's decided she was going to be very persuasive and lead him away from his mates (Spike, Jamire and Flicker). She was putting her bottom in his face, he did not have a clue what she was doing and kept moving up to her neck to groom her, no, young man that's not what I want and continues with the rear end. Finally, Ralph kind of got the idea and was showing a little interest, but still not sure what to do.
Eventually, he clocked me, my cousin and a friend at the gate and came trotting over with the said mare in tow, he looked totally bemused and needed rescuing, he threw his head into the head collar and came in with the old girl on his tail.
I thought that this may be love and my boy, now a man may have been changed for life and Zeta would be his love, however, we looked in the field five minutes later and Zeta the love rat had already sought the affections of another man. She has led my boy astray, how will he cope?
The only thing that can be said is that Zeta is Welsh, so, tradition is being maintained, despite the fact its with a woman! It will be interesting to see whats happening today, is it love or just a passing faze
