My boy is off to Rockley tomorrow...

So, just a quick post to tell those who are interested that my boy is making his way down to Devon in the morning. Vet has been brilliant about it all and is very interested in updates as and when, as I am of course.

Nothing more to say really except I'm excited and nervous in equal parts lol!! Will be able to heave a huge sigh of relief once the traveling bit is done!

Thank you to all who gave me the information about barefoot and Rockley which really helped with making the decision to send him. Hopefully you'll be able to see him on the blog from time to time. :)

Oh no! That's harsh! Have to say my vet thought I was mad at first but since he's spoken to Nic he can see she knows what she's doing and is very knowledgeable about what's needed too. I'd see if you can get your vet to talk to her if I were you, she's brilliant at explaining things, far more so than I could ever do!

Farrier isn't convinced either, but if it works I don't mind being considered odd. Just this morning my vet commented that I'm his most difficult customer because I come up with " some weird S**T" lol! I'm quite proud of that though, at least nobody could say I haven't looked at every available option.

Don't give up, ask your vet to talk to Nic, you've got nothing to lose. If you don't ask the answer will always be no. Good luck. :)

Well going by the other horses he will settle in fine, so try not to worry on that score.

As for the rest... best of luck but I'm secretly expecting a promising outcome. x

DL - could you/would you change vet/farrier? My vets are fine about my two being BF, they've even got some positive info about it on their website and know about Rockley *shock*

Seems a terrible shame to not even get the chance because of two narrow minded professionals!

Ali, your vets must be very progressive lol! Really impressed with mine though, he'd never heard of Rockley when I mentioned it but was happy to listen and did make time to talk to Nic about it. He also gave me a thorough run down on what he thought and why, and agreed with me about the kind of improvement we would be looking for from him being at Rockley. I've always thought he was a fab vet but now I'm even more impressed. Vets in general get so used to being treated like God by us less knowledgeable than them that I think some of them find it hard to listen to stuff outside their area. That and the fact that there are an awful lot of conmen out there and they know it's hard for a hopeful owner to be objective about things.

Dressagelove I honestly believe if you can get your vet to just speak to Nic, you'll get a sensible response. :)
 
They're pretty pragmatic and have the time and are willing to talk on an intelligent person to intelligent person basis rather than god v human - I'll do this and that'll solve it approach!

I am looking forward to hearing how he gets on , good for your vet for having an open mind, perhaps it's not surprising the farrier is dubious to many people like you and he will be out of a job!

Your farrier and vet may just have to eat their rasp and hoof testers!

Why do you need vets and farriers permission to do anything with your own property? I love to see the fur fly they tried to stop me doing what I thought was best.

I think it's because Nic doesn't accept them without the treating vet having an understanding about what she does and happy about what's going to happen to them. Before my vet spoke to Nic I did get all the traditional lines about the shoes holding the feet together and supporting them.

I've done my packing now as I'm going to stay down there for a couple of days and see how he gets on. I'm betting on a surprised face when he gets a look at the track! Gonna take lots of pics!!

I'm extra special lucky because I'm off down there tomorrow to see him again! Have really missed him and it's only been 9 days since I last saw him! Hope you all caught him on the blog in his classy spot! ;)
 
I am a bit confused by some responses, why do you have to have your vets permission to send your own horse to Rockley?
 
It is important to have the vet and farrier/timmer involved with the process so that everyone is working together from the initial diagnosis and treatment through to Rockley and after as even when home the Rockley horse will still need support from the whole team. Your insurance will also prob need it to be a vet referred treatment too in order to pay out.

I understand totally why rockley need the vet to be onside my point was just if a vet would support my decision in a case like yours me or she would not be my vet I would just move.

My thoughts exactly!

FWIW, we are currently planning the season's outings for my little TB and he will be barefoot.
