Lost this lad a year ago to colic. He was my best friend an absolute rock and such good fun to ride. Never been one close to him and I wonder if that’s it for me as I get older and less brave. Thank you Pete for the most amazing memories. Just don’t want to forget him ever.

He has such a lovely face. Your pictures made me smile thank you for sharing them, I can see why you loved him so much.

losing a heart horse is soul destroying but please don’t close yourself off from loving another, you can have another horse that will make you just as happy. Though there will never be another the same, there can be another that you can love just as much and that can help you fall back in love with the hobby again. Just allow yourself time, it’s taken me 18 months to do this but I’m finally there again.

Thank you for that. I’m in a tricky situation while there is only enough funds for one in my life. Don’t wish the retired 14 year old harm but wonder if I’ll have him a long time which is going to impact on me getting another riding horse. Pete truly was a heart horse. Always made me smile

Thank you for sharing these photographs of Pete - I'm not surprised you loved him to bits.

I am so sorry you have had to go through this. As I lost my old boy to colic, I fully understand where you are coming from - it really is dreadful for them and us.

It has been a tough year for you, and whilst you will never forget what happened, gradually you will begin to think of the happy times you had with Pete. XX

What a beautiful boy, am so sorry for your loss.

I lost my heart horse 18 years ago, I remember the pain well. I’m very lucky to now have my 2nd heart horse.

Could you afford to share another that you could ride as at only 14 your retired chap could have a long time ahead. I know with a share you don't get the same bond as with your own ( well I don't think I would) but at least you would get to ride? Or could you buy another to ride and get a sharer to help with costs?

I’m very fortunate. I hack once a week on a friends ex eventer also ride once a week with a lady who has a carriage business keeping her Friesians and Lippizaners fit. Lucky me!! So for now it’s working out. I will have another riding horse at some point but not at the moment.
