My boyfriend has ridden Oink, (15.2hh TB) out to the field once or twice at my old yard. At new yard today he decided that he wanted to ride him out to the field, rug on and with just head collar and no hat (yes I know some of you will shout at me but he's 25 and can make up his own mind!)
It didn't really start well as he fell off the bench trying to get on him

Anyway climbed on fine from the gate and was doing very well walking along so decided he wanted a little trot, ok I thought! Now Oinks quite petite and my boyfriend is a skinny 6.1ft guy, I think Oink was more concerned about getting to his field and thought what the bloody hell is dad doing on me!

Oink got a bit uptight and decided to turn himself slightly sideways, at which point my boyfriend said i'm going to fall off and promptly did! I carried on trotting with Oink to see him sprawled on the floor he he!! Saw he was ok to carried on and turned Oink out, I think he was happy to be back in his field with the grass! Meanwhile boyfriend had picked himself up and had a slightly red hip but was more worried about getting dirty!

Made my day! Boyfriend reckons he'll be fine with a saddle and bridle lol

Anyone else got similar funny stories of OH's riding?

Oink! I can safely say I don't know any other horse called Oink! Apparantly he got it when he was at a race yard when he was a 2yr old becuase he was such a pig!! Both eating wise and with the lady horses lol! I love it! x

Love the story!

My OH (now ex) had instructions to lunge my TB whilst I took my other horse round the gallops. After lunging for 15 minutes he decided he wanted to ride the TB (never been on him ever before). Instead of going to get the saddle and bridle, he decided to attach the lunge line as reins to the leather headcollar the horse was being lunged in and get on bareback.

Bearing in mind I am 7 stone and my ex was 14 stone, my TB obviously wondered what the heck was on his back, plus he has a sensitive back anyway. The TB took off around the arena with ex trying to cling on for dear life and obviously not a hope in hell's chance of being able to stop him in only a headcollar. I arrived back just in time to see my ex flying through the air having been bucked off in canter!!

Who do you think I checked to see was o.k.? ........ the horse of course, ex OH got a rollocking for being so stupid (plus he also did not have a hat on). Men and their bravado!!!

I know, I know - BUT - at the beginning of May the 17 yr old girl who we bought our pony from only last year was killed when she got on her horse without a hat and with him only in a headcollar. I know it was a freak accident - but it happened. Please, please always put a hat on.

I totally agree with you Boxers about hats, I never get on any horse without a hat (even just for riding up from the field). After the incident, my ex was banned from getting on a horse without a hat. Any thing can happen in a split second and I have had the unfortunate experience of seeing several people with split open heads as they thought falling off couldn't happen to them as they were only going to walk or the horse wouldn't chuck them off.

I am sorry that you lost someone you knew.

my OH wld take my pony down to the bottom of the field then jump on and pony wld canter back up to the top (no headcollar or anything
