My lovely, nutty mare has come such a long way, I just had to brag about her. She is such a strong, brave horse and I am so proud of her.

Here she is on the first day that she arrived at the farm:

She was a nightmare for the first few months; stressy, uninterested in food, crib-biting etc. We put her out in a field on grass and hay (no concentrate as she hots up terribly and gallops around like a mad thing) and gave her time. We did lots of grooming, carrots, walking on a lead, gradually introduced ridden work, schooling and eventually some fast work and jumping and this is the result, 3 years on;

She is the absolute light of my life, mad as a hatter and I wouldn't change a thing. We have also managed to (mostly) stop the crib-biting. She is out 24/7 (in South Africa) and has a 3 acre paddock with 2 other horses. She only crib-bites whilst being bathed or is she has to stand for the vet.

What a wonderful story and such a beautiful horse. its so lovely to read the journeys people have taken with thier horses and i hope you are proud not only of your beautiful horse but in yourself for what you have achieved. just lovely x

A fabulous transformation - she is unrecognisable from 3 years ago. Well done in giving her the time and love you have every right to brag.

Thank you! She is my world!

Here is a rather silly one...

She is nearly 15 now and hasn't even started to show any signs of growing up. She gives our groom a terrible time of it, she's impossible to keep in a paddock and everything is done with incredible enthusiasm and energy. She is very sound too, which is amazing considering her background.

That last one is from a few that I had taken for the wall of my flat in Johannesburg :-) Sadly I work such long hours that I don't get to see her all that often. She is on my family's farm in Cape Town. Luckily we have a fabulous groom (ex-jockey) who texts me updates and rides her almost every day. I still try to fly down once a month but its a huge expense. Due to African Horse Sickness, I have judged it too high a risk to move her up to Joburg.

Awwww such a lovely post :) she's got a lovely happy sparkle in her eye now. She must know how lucky she is to found someone like you
