Well we had a lot planned for this weekend,
mainly because my riding club rang during the week in a panic as 1 of our team members had got kicked, and couldn't jump at the indoor championships on Sun.
We only have a small riding club with a lot of people who don't do much competing so they were struggling to find anyone to jump the open height (1m10)
I normally wouldn't jump on a team as Davy isn't the most careful SJ so not likely to go double clear!
So anyway, with this in mind, I thought I had better go to my club night on Fri to give him a wee practice and ensure the other team members were happy enough for me to jump.
He was very good and popped round 3 rounds at 1m5, only tapping out 1 upright in the second round
So I was happy enough that he wasn't feeling his previously sore back, and was feeling a bit more like himself.... the team also seemed happy enough so that was that!
On Sat I had already got him entered to do some dressage. It was the last of the eventing dressage league, and because he had been so bad the last time out (due to him having pulled a muscle in his back
) I wanted to get him in an arena again before the first event (he has a very long memory and fretts if something went wrong last time!)
He behaved very well and kept it together in the arena, so I was
. Wasn't disappointed with 58% and 59% as I was only there for a school and was keeping the trot far too quiet, so got a lot of "needs to go forward more" comments!
But at least it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel and I can now enter the first event!
A few pics... Im know my position is awful so no cc please!
Didn't have to leave early on Sun morning, a respectable 10.30!
I had never been to Portmore before but had heard it was a beautiful big arena, and it was!
We got there in time to walk the course, which they didn't let us do!
I managed to get in a flap over this as there were a lot of related distances and I like to walk them all for my chap! Queue lots of watching and counting!
The first girl to jump on our team had 8 faults and 4 faults but the other 2 went double clear.... so NO PRESSURE!
Got Davy off in plenty of time and let him stand and watch a few jump in the main arena, which seemed to settle him
I went and warmed up but the warm up arena was crazy busy and he was getting a little wound up, so just jumped a few fences and came out in time to jump!
The main arena is very spooky and all my team had warned me about the statue people that were spooking a lot of horses
As you can see Davy didn't even notice them!
He jumped really well and didn't get worried by anything, keeping in the same nice rhythm the whole way round
Unfortunately he had one down in each round
Everyone was very kind and said it didn't matter!
More statues!
Knocked this 1 down
So after a busy weekend for Davy, I'm a lot more confident about the start of the season!
Think he deserves a day or 2 off now!
