DR missed early signs it wasn't going well

Dear oh Dear oh Dear how on earth do I manage it? Totally different hospital too

On checking back through my xrays with the hospital yesterday we once again picked up something that was missed. Going back to last October it clearly shows on the xrays that the replacement had moved!! How on earth they missed it I do not know, even I could see it.

That means it had moved only weeks after surgery, well before I was allowed to start riding or doing yard jobs.

Good news is that while it was missed it hasn't really made any difference to the final outcome. In fact it has given me chance to build muscles inbetween the surgeries and have some fun with Micah

The other not so good news is that my foot is rather twisted on the end of Tibia. I can turn it and make it straight but it means I will never be able to walk barefoot as it needs constant support, which we are hoping will stop it collapsing inwards. They also hope that correct physio will at least help the problem

Needless to say I am being monitored extra carefully

So fingers crossed it all works out in the end.

3 weeks in this air cast doing physio, then I start to walk without it.

Hope to be riding in a few weeks :D

Gosh, that's lots of good news (riding again soon :D ) and bad news (things moving and being missed by the hospital :( ).

I hope that you feel much better soon.

How did you injure yourself (sorry, I missed what happened)?

in Jan 2009 I fell off horse, landing on my feet (don't do this, tuck and roll lol)
I badly fractured my ankle both sides. Surgeon did a bad job of putting it back together, so it almost collapsed in Nov.

Was so bad had to have replacement ankle joint in aug 2010. Then in March found out it had moved so April more surgery to correct it

4th summer in a row I've missed now, 1st one was horses injury :(

I have a lovely new horse. well had him just over a year now, but not been able to do much with him cos of all this lot!

What a saga you've been through. :( It all sounds very painful.

I really hope that it's all nearly over for you now and that you'll shortly be having lots of fun with your new neddy. :D

Hope you can now see the light at the end of the tunnel - it sounds horrendous..

Fortunately I have, after years of falling off, perfected the art of landing on my backside. Proved extremely helpful when skiing earlier this year and apparently I have falling over down to a fine art. I also then get comments about using my natural airbags..!

oh my! This is what i'm worried about, my 4 breaks should have healed by now but no one of them still has a huge gap despite being plated and pinned. They are now worried that all my symptoms and signs suggest the plate is loose but xray seems to suggest it's fine, so under xray every 4 weeks and surgery if it shows it's moved - terrified is an understatement along with total devistation at so far and yet not.

Will they not operate again for you then? what happens about holidays or swimming?

So wishing you all the luck when the boot comes off! I am sure physio and strengthening will help to keep everything stable once you get walking again.

You are my inspiration to keep going with my ankle, although in so much pain at moment back on the diclofenac.

On Monday had an ultrasound scan on ligaments and tendons on inside of ankle and front where I get the pains and now got bone spurs and something they called 'footballers ankle' so waiting to go back to consultant to see whats to be done now  So even 10 months down the line problems can start with uncomplicated plate repairs.

You are doing so well despite your RA and I am sure once everything settles you'll be back riding again. :D

As a fellow 'broken ankle sufferer' (fortunately my only complication was infected left-in stitches), you have all my sympathy.
I have certainly found physio to be brilliant at sorting problems out!
Fingers crossed this is your last setback!

There is nothing they can do because of my RA the bones below the replacement are out of alignment. He has fixed the joint at a slight angle to accommodate it. Hoping physio will help a lot Also have to wear special insoles every time I put my foot on the floor, so NO barefoot. Not a huge price to pay if it all works out ok

I can take the air cast off so I can go for a gentle swim. Holidays? what are they? lol
