Since having to stay in due to fields being too wet my heavy weight cob has been receiving a small hole haynet in the morning & again at night always devouring every last morsel. Since moving him to full livery where he's been getting adlib haylege he's suddenly not so keen to polish off the lot & surprise surprise he hasn't put on anymore weight! It seems the more he has the less he eats rather than the other way round, weird 😯

As above. I have no trouble with the weight on the large (35 acre) fields. They keep moving and grazing steadily. Soon as restricted they start gorging what's out.

My horse is the opposite. Had never given ad lib and managed to keep the weight perfect even though she was eating every last bit.
Thought a couple months back I would try the ad lib approach to see if she too decided that there was no need to gorge.... Nope! Still had eaten ever bit in site! So have gone back to the controlled feeding in 2 small holed nets per night, both double netted!

My cob also no longer fights to kill the haynet and get every morsal since i have beeni feeding him from a haybar, he even left some the other morning, not ever heard of with a cob.
