i'm going to a show in a months time and i'm just sorting my entries out. i've never been into showing but i've decided to have a go on Kiwi and it will probably be the first proper show i will be doing on her ( she has done a couple with old owner!) unless i can get down to the local one soon. anyway i'm thinking about enetering the ridden youngster (for 4 and 5 year olds) don't know what these are so would like to have some info about these to see if it would be suitable (she's 5 this year), the ridden colourd and a novice working hunter. its unaffiliated but likely to be big classes. heres some pictures by the way these where taken a couple of weeks ago. she has put weight on and will have hopefully put even more on by the show as she is having a feed and is on grass. also i'm not really expecting do amazingly well anyway because she is still growing just want to see how she goes!

and another thing she stood on a hill lol so not stood very square ect.

For showing i would be looking for more muscle and more weight! Im not talking fat, but a nice top line covering.

I know shes rising 5 but she looks quite weak behind, have you tried lunging her with a pessoa etc?

Shes got a nice shiney coat but needs to be more BLOOMING IMO. What do you feed her currently and work load etc.

Shes going to make a nice competition horse.

This is mine, hes the same age as yours, this is him back in February - so still clipped etc. Hes got more muscle and has a good covering wtihout looking fat. He looks similar to that now, although hes eventing fit now. Just a little leaner in the tummy area.

I have done ridden youngster classes in the past, and my experience is that the format of the class is very similar to other showing classes. I.e. you will be asked to walk, trot, canter, change rein and do the same on the other rein with all the other horses. Then you will be pulled in and asked to perform a short individual show. (Plus walk and trot up in hand). I guess the thing is, the judge is looking for potential, may be less harsh on mistakes due to horse being young/green. Also I don't believe the judge will ride (well in my experience they did not ride).

So that would be a good option, plus coloured.

My overall impression is nice horse, lovely markings. Are her feet quite boxy or maybe a little long? Also definitely more muscle/condition would help. But potential is there. Have fun and I hope it goes well

Ditto to the above. I'd want to see more weight on her as she's a bit lean. What's her breeding? She looks very similar to my 4/5 year old coloured gelding!

Have fun with her, that's the main thing!
