My Dad's horsey vocabulary

and he always complains the horses have a bigger wardrobe than the whole family put together

Snap! Lol! My dad did when I was living at home :D He often comes out with daft things to do with the horses, can't think off of the top of my head though! He wasn't at all interested when I first started riding Nelson but when I took Nel on full loan he'd come down more often and just make a fuss of him, then bought him for me for my 16th :D

OH made me chuckle the other day when he was mixing the food, full yard and he shouts "we're nearly out of Cheerios!!" - he meant my Barley Conditioning Rings :p

This post put tears in my eyes - our dads - and mums - need to be appreciated every day for what they have done and continue to do for us. If we are the lucky ones who still have parents.

We need to tell them how much we love and appreciate them, before its too late.

My dad (also 77) loves my old gelding and they too wander off together like two old gents that they are!! Recently my dad said that Yogi is always sad when I walk away. What do you mean dad I asked, a bit worried (I have a new mare and am riddled with guilt and worried that Yogi may now feel in 2nd place - he isn't). Well, he sighs deeply and wobbles his lower lip my dad says. Now I'm really worried because Yogi does wobble his lower lip when he's stressed or worried. ..."and then a large tear trickles down his cheek" says dad. Haha he got me!!! I fell for it. bless them both, my old gents XXX

I too am lucky. I have a mum who does the horses while im slaving at uni, she has also paid for them the last 6 months as I have had no spare time to work.

I have a dad who found me Toffee, even if it was in hope that I would get bored and get over the I want a pony idea (shes still here 9 years on :D ).

Hes made me 2 stables and a chicken shed. And fixed my car.

:D

I wouldn't be able to afford to keep mine without my parents. my dad pays his livery and his vets bills and he paid to have jerry sent back to the uk which wasn't cheap

don't know what I'd do without him. funny how he's now more obsessed with horses than I am - he only started riding so my first horse got enough exercise when I had school commitments

Ur dad sounds awesome. Mine's pretty amazing too. He. Not too bad at the names of equipment it's horses he doesn't do. Only just started refering to lottie by name after 16 years. Everything else is still just 'horse' when he addresses it.

Aww bless.

When I did my back in at Xmas- my pensioner parents came and did the mucking out under supervision of the kids....I just wandered about pointing at stuff off my head on painkillers....

OH- who actually has a horse and should know better calls stuff by the name he thinks it *should* be called- you just have to guess what he's on about..

Gusset=girth:confused:

So true, I wish I'd told mine this a lot more often!

i always think this, last summer, (btw my dad is a un horsey man)
we went to summer champs for 5 days at Arena UK, he came, and hung around all week, i felt very sorry for him as he said he didnt mind but he would clearly like to have been doing something else.. after every morning class, we would come back to the lorry, finding bacon sandwiches cooked on the BBQ, everything tidy... he had been staying with his brother 1hr away.. and he was there all week.. (and had driven up with a trailer full of stuff) he ran tesco erronds for all our friends and was amazing
this post has really made me think.. i need to go and tell him :D
thanks Dad!..
:D(even though the saddle still goes on backwards, and the travel boots and the bed is never quite mucked out to my standard..)

How lucky you are your dad sounds ace

a non-horsey member of my family describes a girth as a fat strap and his rugs as pyjamas !
