Raff started back in work this week! And has been ABSOLUTELY angelic.

I bought him May 2009, rode for about 2 months cos i was preggers. he's always been absolutely perfect, he's never put a foot wrong... yet i lost ALL my confidence on a previous horse and have been really struggling with it.

he then had about 9 months off whilst i had baby/recovered/tried to deal with my lack of confidence.

when i eventually forced myself back on him, he was ridden about 4 or 5 times before getting kicked in the field and his leg broken. he was cross tied for months, and has been turned out for a few weeks now. vet says he has to start getting worked again (in walk).

gulp

i'm too chicken, so i have paid a local girl to come and hack him down the road for ten mintues. she came on monday, he was AMAZING. i walked with them. he was a bit unsure but didn't put a foot wrong.

she came back today (she's doing 3 times a week) and took him out. he was beyond perfect. he dealt with the bin lorry/bin men/bags/tractors and a stupid van with a trailer that didn't slow down. all on a very narrow country road. his stride didn't falter.

now, is my darling Raff angelic, or WHAT? he's literally been ridden a handul of times in the last 16months, almost 3 months of which was spent crosstied! yet will hack out alone perfectly.

rider is coming back on friday to take him out again for ten mins. then i'm trying to pluck up the courage to get on over the weekend. *paarp*

sorry, far too gushy for a wednesday afternoon... i'm just so VERY proud of him. :D he's my world :D

What a SAINT! Give him a big squishy hug from me...I've been telling my lot all about his troubles since that awful first post about his poor leglet!

Be as self indulgent as you like :D
He sounds like one in a million, good luck with regaining your confidence, I'm sure he'll hold your hand all the way :p

Fantastic! My lad was on box rest around the same time Raff broke his leg and I followed your posts with so much sympathy. This is a really great piece of news - I am so pleased for you both.
Onwards and upwards (well, more onwards, lol :))

That's a lovely post to read - so glad he's got through it all and been such a star and that now you can continue your regaining your confidence journey slowly but surely now. It will be brilliant and fun :)

How odd, I was just about to make a post asking about how the horse that had the broken leg was getting on...as I was having a memory loss on the name!

So pleased! Fingers crossed for a full recovery back into work :D
