My dog was recently started on the BARF diet and I have been introducing bones. First she had a lamb chop, and immediately brought it back up. I gave her another one a week later, and it happened again and yesterday I gave her a bone from the butchers, looks like a rib or something, and I went down this morning and she has spewed up AGAIN! Im sorry its not very pleasant but what can I do? She cant be on a BARF diet without the bones.

Is it just lamb bones that this is happening with? I have heard of certain dogs not getting on with certain meats/bones? One of mine often throws up if he eats too fast, but it is not long before it disapears again!

I would go back to chicken wings as they are the best meat to bone ratio, and if you can get chicken carcasses they are good, am meeting my sister for lunch, she the real expert so I will ask her advice and get back to you later.

Why try to continue feeding bones if your dog's system doesn't agree with them?
There are literally hundreds of well balanced foods out there that wont make your dog ill!

Had a word with her and this has been seen especially in dogs that have been fed for several generations on packet, tin and sack "food". Please don't be put off I have seen the benefits over many years of feeding raw and just wish I had been brave enough to try it sooner, I cannot praise the diet highly enough and see a vast improvement in a short periods of time.

I have always had rescues and have noticed quite prolonged periods of detox when placed on BARF, especially in older dogs, basically the more commercial food it's had the longer it takes for the benefits to kick in, I find it so sad what we have done to our dogs by feeding convenient foods!

A natural diet for a wild dog is balanced sometimes over a couple of months with them concentrating on available food sources such as baby rabbits/hares or birds eggs and young from ground nesting birds, etc. I'm not suggesting that nor periods of fast, but avoiding a feedstuff for a while is not a problem as there are other meats you can use.

My sister suggested you take it back to the chicken wings/ bones for a short period then try feeding mince lamb and see if you get a reaction, in the meantime the chicken bones should provide the nutrients and try beef knuckle bones to chew on and clean the teeth, often after a while on the diet, when the effects of the commercial feed have worn off the reaction can disapear.
