Hi, My dog needs to go on a diet. But she is a graze eater with a complete biscuit, can anyone give me any advise on how i can put her on a diet please? :)

Measure out to the weight you want your dog to be and do not feed any more than that in a 24 hour period.

If you substitute part of her dried food with vegetables and give her regular exercise she will begin to shed the pounds.
I have my 8 year old boxer on a diet at the minute. I just give her a bit less of her dried food and top up the scoop with carrots or broccolli. She loves it.
It is easier for them to digest the veggies if they are cooked but I have given her the carrots raw many times with no problems.

PS. Chop the carrots into sticks or chunks (not rings) incase she chokes.

Make sure and get the dog weighed on a regular basis to ensure she doesn't lose weight too quickly.

When my dog needed to go on a diet, I did it via my vet with guidance.

What food is she actually on, then we can perhaps suggest a better one for weight loss. Some complete feeds are full of rubbish some are full off goodness. So it does depend what she is already on

get her on a decent quality lite food, stop letting her eat adlib and feed 2 small meals a day. Weigh out the amounts according to the manufacturers guidlines on the bag to start with but be guided by what you see infront of you. If she isnt losing weight, reduce the amount. NO snacks inbetween meals or titbits and only leave her bowl down for 10 mins, if she doesnt eat it all, take it away.

Great thank you all for your help.

She is on a complete dry food at the moment (my local feed stores own brand) shes currently just under 10 kg and should be around 8!

I will try all that has been suggested.

Thanks.

That's nice your dog loss weight. I think you have to keep close eyes on the eating habits and foods. Feed him less fat and low protein items. It help to maintain weight. Also fat level.

Mines on Arden Grange Lite if that helps. Was feeding the normal Arden Grange but after a period of restricted exercise he did start to put weight on and I found this helps as I can feed him enough to stop him being hungry but keep his weight under control.
