My Springer Spaniel has stopped eating. I recently took in my Moms little Westie as she can no longer manage her, within a couple of days Merlin stopped eating. I took him to the vet, he had a temperature of 38.6 she put him on a course of antibiotics, these are finished and he is on an anti inflamitory and a mixture to settle his tum. He still will not eat or even try.
Dose anyone else have an idea, i am thinking he is depressed with this new arrival what do you all think, and if this is so how can I get him to eat.

I am very concerned.

Is he not eating anything, and for how long? I would suggest you first speak to the vet and see what they advise, they may want to see him again and run further tests. It is quite possible he is feeling a bit put out by the new arrival, if he is picking at foot and you don't feel he is losing weight perhaps just give him a bit longer to get used to the new arrival. You could perhaps try offering some really tempting food, cooked chicken, pilchards or if you can stand the smell, green tripe.

He has been picking, saussage but only a few bit's. He has lost 0.8 of a kilo in 1 week, still wags his tail and is drinking plenty. this may sound silly but he is a sensetive lad who can sulk for England when upset. Problem is the new arrival is only six months old and is taking up a lot of time.

Sorry to be downer, but I'd a cat that wouldn't eat for no apparent reason, and it turned out she'd a tumour of some sort in her chest area (which made swallowing painful) the vet only found it because she x-rayed the cat from above (if you see what I mean)

I hope it's nothing that serious, and that your dog is just sulking!

Try tripe!! Sell it smushed and frozen in P@H

If no improvement I would want the vets to run further tests.

this ^

my dog would mow me down for tripe!! :D

hope your dog feels better soon! springers are not normally non eaters! so hes having atemper tantrum at the new arrival or is genuinly ill :(

I used to look after a spaniel who didn't eat, was a pain in the arse but his life was so unsettled that he used to be here, there and everywhere. It wasn't until he basically lived with me(owner owed me so much money that I was going to keep him) that he started to eat. Atleast he's eating something

take him to the vets and get him x-rayed, I had something similar with one of my borzoi, you must get him x-rayed tomorrow, incase there is something there stopping him eat.

If its clear, try chappie, grated cheese on his food, a bit of garlic in his meat and warm gently, the fail safe one was horse poop, free of wormer of course, let me know how you get on

Good Luck
xx
