So, we've been out to our friends' farm today with the Labs. Walking around the headland of one of the cornfields we came across a ewe and 5 lambs trampling the corn flat and generally behaving very badly, the lambs were not all hers obvs, she must be the black sheep of the flock (except she's white, but you know what I mean) and had rounded them up in order to lead them astray. We decided to usher them back to gate and return them to their field. Both Labs did not so much as turn a hair, neither were on a lead and they just walked beside us as the errant flock was rounded up and walked quietly to the gate. No attempt to chase even when the sheep began to jog and they stood their ground quietly when the old ewe turned and stamped her feet at us. We got to the gate and OH walked ahead to open it, the flock decided to plot their escape and turned to the left to make a run for it, our two year old Lab calmly, at walking pace, just stepped into their way and they turned and walked though the gate. Our 12 year old was guarding the right flank and between them they channelled them through the gate. Amazing. Or at least, I think so. Having saved the farm sheepdog a job we continued our walk and met a couple with a dog who had a complete meltdown when he saw our two. They were off the public right of way and so we stopped and showed them where to rejoin the path, their dog was snarling and taking a very aggressive stance and neither of ours even looked at it, never mind reacted. I am so proud of them today. They're having pilchards for tea so this evening will be windy 💨🐟 but they deserve it. 🐾😍❤️

What a lovely post... and yes I will admit to being a trifle envious lol, I couldn’t imagine my 4 behaving like that sadly! Maybe one day I will move away from having sight hounds...🙄

Our achievement today was going to the dog field with sausages and trying to teach Ace about recall 😄 Bearing in mind he didn’t have a clue what his name was or what recall was when I got him at Easter (and that he isn’t exactly the brightest dog around!) I was really pleased with him 😊😊😊 I’ll try and add a link to the video.... naturally when the lurchers knew I had sausages they didn’t move further than an inch from my side 😂

I'm sure that your dogs are a credit to you in many other ways Levrier, they all look the picture of health 😍🐾. Ours have left us mortified on many an occasion so I felt that they were particularly brilliant today. I have been so proud of the way they have coped with losing Spot who was definitely the matriarch of the family. It could really have been a troubling time for The Yellow Peril as she is new to our family but was very bonded with Spot, and Jake and Spot have been together for many years, plus Jake has just had pretty major surgery but between the two of them, Jake and Peril, have clubbed together and adapted so well to her loss, demonstrating what well adjusted, fantastic dogs they are. They give me strength and I'm not afraid to say that I am completely in awe of them both. 🐾😇😍💕

Wow that is impressive and i'm a wee bit jealous as my Weim brought back the stinking semi mummified remains of a deer leg today and the first I knew about it was a putrid smell wafting over me whilst I cooked supper.....heave

Well yes that is the other thing about labradors. Tawny bought us the muntjac head from last week today, very maggoty and quite delicious she said!

And again today...OH was pigeon shooting and The Peril was retrieving, shot pigeon crash landed in next door sheep field and The Yellow Peril followed it at a flat out run, jumped over dry stone wall and saw sheep, immediately slowed to a walk around edge of flock, calmly picked up pigeon and walked back through flock none of whom had seemed to notice her, jumped over wall and accelerated to a flat out run back to drop it at OHs feet. Sheep have never registered on her radar but the fact that she behaves so considerately around them amazes me. She's only just two years old so she's still a baby really. Rolled in sheep shit on walk home however so required a wash when we got home, much sulking ensued...image.jpegimage.jpeg

She doesn't much care for yard washes, much prefers a nice warm shower indoors but there was barely an inch of her not covered in sheep muck so there was no way she coming indoors in that state, she did get dried well with a towel straight out of the tumble drier though and then fell asleep in a pair of Spot's old pjs. 🐾😍😇 strange thing is, that Spot was a prolific roller and it has never really been Peril's thing, today though Peril was wearing one of Spot's old collars (so we felt as though Spot was still with us) so I reckon that Spot made her do it!!😇❤️
